Overall Rank = 106/152

Age Group Rank = 19/30
Pre-race routine:

Got to the race early to set up and give myself a chance to focus on having a good swim.
Event warmup:

N/A
Swim
  • 12m 33s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 31s / 100 meters
Comments:

I'd had pretty unsuccessful swims up until this point and my goal was to simply try to relax, enjoy the swim, and make it all the way around doing freestyle.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing as far as this portion was concerned - my goal was to have a good, uneventful swim and I did it.
Transition 1
  • 01m 47s
Comments:

This was the first race with my new Specialized tri-shoes and they're great!
Bike
  • 47m 23s
  • 12.42 miles
  • 15.73 mile/hr
Comments:

This was a fun course with what to me was a monster hill at the halfway point. About 2/3 of the way up, I decided to clip out and walk, but couldn't get my new shoes unclipped so I just kept pedaling to the top with my heart feeling like it was going to beat out of my chest. I hit 42mph on the way down.
What would you do differently?:

I need to find a way to practice some hills.
Transition 2
  • 01m 8s
Comments:

I had to stop before T2 to go to the bathroom so this slowed me down somewhat.
What would you do differently?:

Manage my bodily needs better prior to the race.
Run
  • 32m 8s
  • 3.28 miles
  • 09m 48s  min/mile
Comments:

I really didn't feel like I was going as slow as my results show, but I was trying to save a little since I wasn't sure how many hills were going to be on the course.

What would you do differently?:

Turns out I could've pushed more.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

My lack of ability to handle hills on the bike. Also, inexperience on the course caused me to hold back more than I should have since I didn't know how many hills I'd encounter.

Event comments:

Post race activities are the best I've been to. Free food for all the families is a big plus when your wife is bringing the 4 year old along. It's important to me for both of them to have a positive experience and the in/post-race activities really helped.

Planning on going back next year.

Congratulations Two Marks,

Sounds like you had a great time.  No doubt a hilly course.  Your right the redemption races are very family oriented.  I am doing the Natural Bridge Caverns the first week in Dec.  A tough Du.

You ought to come up.  You have the Riverwalk which is really cool at Xmas and the Outlet Malls are close.

This was one of the most enjoyable events I have ever completed.
