Today's 6 mile marathon pace run is my 304th day in row so I guess I am in also. I am loving this running streak.

Wow - Awesome Job.

Out of curiosity - how has this streak affected your running?  Have you improved as a runner?  Have you gotten faster?  What do your weekly runs look like (short, ,short, long, short, long, short, short) and how many miles do you run for short vs long runs?  How do you recover?  Do you do sprints, strides, repeats, hills etc. - or just run most at a marathon pace?

Sorry for all the questions - I would love to know, because a 304 day streak is not a typical run training program - and I am really trying to focus on running this winter as my IM run was incredibly tough.

Thanks

FWIW, I have been running 6 days a week for close to a year and I run all of them slow.  I was up to 5 hours/week before breaking my toe and starting taper.  I have taken 10 min off my 10K so far.  We'll see if/how much I take off my 21K this Sunday (HIM).  I follow the BarryP program of runs at 1:2:3 ratio.

Not to get ahead of myself but with the 30 beers in 30 days challenge, can we double up days there too?

I'm going for 30 runs OR rides in 30 days.  For most of you that's probably your regular schedule, but I need to work on my consistency, especially with my last race of the season on Sunday.  Anyway, up to 5!

I feel that I am getting to be stranger runner the longer the streak has gone. I run one run of 3 miles every week and every other run is between 6-22 miles depending on the week. Mon. 6 mile recovery run, Tues. either a tempo run, intervals or hill repeats, Wed. 6-10 miles, Thurs. either a pace run between 6-12 miles or a normal pace same distance, Fri. 3 miles, Sat. is same as Thurs., Sun. is my long run of 14-22 miles. I average 45-65 miles per week, sometimes a bit more than 65. My marathon pace runs are at a 7:40 pace, normal runs at 8:15-9:00 pace depending on how I feel. Long runs I try to stay between 8:30 and 9:00 pace with the last 2-4 at marathon pace.

I find I recover real well now, I have run three marathon so far this year with one more in four week, three half marathons, one olympic tri my first tri ever, a few 10ks and 5ks and one adventure race consisting of 56 miles of running, biking, swimming, orienteering, more running and finish iwth an 8 mile canoe trip.

I will be running my first ultra 3 weeks after my next marathon, a 50k, and I hope to get another Boston qualifying time at my next marathon. I have just turned 50 so I need a 3:30 which should be no problem as long as the weather is not steamy hot like all three marathons I have ran this year have been, Boston was one of them. If my 50K goes well I will run a 50 miler in January and then a 100 miler in the fall. With going to the ultras I will also be upping my weekly miles to around 100 -120 miles per week when training for the 100 miler.

I plan on keeping this running streak going until my body can run any longer.

Holy Cow - that is amazing.  Definitely flies in the face of the traditional "must have rest day's to build" mentality.  I don't have an interest in a streak like this - but I am curious to see how a 30 day streak - then returning to 4 days per week affects me.

Would you say a marathon is "easy" to you?  You clearly do not need recovery days after a marathon...

My goal is to build my running this winter so that I am able to RUN for the entire marathon at the end of an IM.  I just completed my first IM - hd a great swim, great bike, but after about 7 miles of the run - the wheels kind of fell off.

I would not say a marathon is easy for me, I have only run 8 of them. I just started running in 2009 and marathoning in 2010. I race them with everything I have and have hit the wall in two of my marathons around mile 22-23.

On my recovery runs, the day after a marathon of long run my pace is 9:00-9:30. Sometimes I run two to three days at this pace after a tough race and not as many miles. the shortest i have run on my streak so far is 1.25 miles and that was only once. Everything else has been 2 or more miles.

As far as rest goes I'll rest when I die. Really if I am feeling a bit beat up I slow my pace on some runs other than speed work which I try to do 2-3 days a week. My interval lenght is 1/2 mile and I do 1/4 mile hill repeats. Tempo runs are at least 6 miles but usually no more than 10.

I think just the running volume helps me endurance greatly and my body has really gotten use to it. When I first started I was not sure it would for much more than a month but you it has and I love it. Of course most everyone thinks I am crazy, even some of the local runners but it works for me.I also ride my bike about 60-140 miles per week but I have slacked off a bit the last month with two marathons and an ultra in an 8 week stretch. I'll pick the biking volume back up in early November after the 50k.

If you want your run to be better you should really run 5 days a week with you peak week milage between 40-50 miles. It'll help you greatly in the late stages of the marathon portion of the full tri, imho.

Hmm, sounds like I have to up my running a bit (albeit slowly).  That's a hard act to follow.

But....

day 6, 4 mile run.

Day 7 - 4.85 miles - 3 miles sub 8:00 minutes...the one 8:10 min mile was the one that included a steep climb.  I was very, very pleased with tonight's run....I even did an 8 mile bike ride (ran out of daylight, no lights on my bike) afterwords.

Strange how in one week I have experienced 1 run where I was sore - 1 run I would describe as brutal - a PR for a regular route I run, and tonights excellent run...I can't believe how much my runs have varied in only 1 week.

Can't wait for the next 23 days.

Cut it a little close but day 7 is in the books.  2.25 miles, it was a rest day so I kept it pretty close to the bare minimum.  Happy Friday night all.

Has anyone else noticed their appetite has increased?  I can't stop eating!!

I have 8 runs in my 7 days as of Friday, heading out to run around Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis again to make it 9 of 8 in just a bit.

Challenge got me 2 runs yesterday, it was a travel day to Minnesota and I wanted to make sure travel delays didn't prevent me from getting a run in so I ran before we left Vegas. Travel went off without a hitch and we went to Lake Nokomis and did a lap around there when we got in.

Have a good weekend everyone and thanks for this challenge, it's been a big help!!!
