my husband is training with the gatorade....not me. I get migraines; can only use water and Heed, just works for me.

21.22 miles on Saturday and am trying to make myself eat something solid around mile 12/13....anyone else doing this? used a honey stinger waffle, didn't yack OR bonk so i say it's good.

Agree with that... some of my favorite nutrition.  I usually go with the margarita for the extra sodium

I think I finally made myself get use to gel's.  My stomach use to be a so queasy on long runs but I have to say doing more long runs and making sure I practice more with drinking and gel's has really helped.  Also, trying different gels is key, Roctane works best for me. This is my first full marathon (did a HIM and a bunch of half mary's) but I do like the idea of eating something more solid half way through. I don't think I could tolerate much more than blocks or beans, but great idea.

Question, do they usually sell those pace temp tattoos at the expo?

Thanks.

Yes. the tattoos are usually there, and the old-skool wrist bands are plentiful.  A word on the tattoos though, I've found that the middle of the road times go pretty quickly so if you're looking for anything between say 4-5 hours you should try to track it down sooner rather than later in your day at the expo.

I'm in...my first full marathon.

Training is an struggle. I'm following the "Run Less, Run Faster" plan by FIRST. Three runs plus two rides per week, with paces based on prevent race times. I can meet the pace standard for the interval and tempo training, but not on the long runs. They are a struggle. Friday is a 20-miler, the longest run in the programme.

I just made the transition from Gatorade to HEED, after trying it at a VTS race, and preferring it to the old favorite.

I am looking forward to this iconic event for a first (and last) marathon.

See you all there!

I projectile vomitted Clif shot blocks at mile 3 of my 70.3 in August.

So yeah.

I think I'm going to pass. Although, it was a Red flavor- maybe Margarita would be better. And the shot blocks were at least 90 degrees and sitting in the sun.

NASTY.

All-righty-then.  So I guess the shot blocks are out.  Next suggestion.

If people are having problems with gels get a flask put 4 in it and add water to the flask it goes down much easier!!

Good for you!  You never know...you might love the experience and want to do more marathons!  This is my third marathon.  I have just recently started to do some trail running.  I love it.  I have done two 50k races, so far.  I am planning to run a 50 mile trail race next spring!  This is coming from a person who never ran more than a mile before age 48!

For nutrition on the longer runs, I use Stinger gels, shot blocks (at room temperature!), sports beans and ramen noodles.  I don't use everything during one run, but I have had success with all of them.  Gatorade bothers my digestive system, so I never drink it during runs.

You can join me.  I am doing the Dirty German in Pennypack Park at the end of May.  I will talk to you about when/where we run the trails.  You can join us for training.

Did my long run yesterday, 20 miles of mixed road and gravel, the gravel being in the middle for about 8 miles.

Some Achilles pain for a couple miles after the gravel, then just general foot/ankle pain, but nothing new for me at this point.

For all the nutrition questions, I must be lucky, I don't have stomach issues with eating on the course, at least not coming back up...

My planning is more about pre-race meals, and getting the other end business taken care of.  Lately it takes me about a 10 mile warm up to get the other end going...

And yesterday I decided to try not eating anything on the run; I had a granola bar just in case, but ended up only having about 24 Oz of water.  Some banana-date bread for breakfast, and that was about it.  I really didn't feel any different on the run.

First time for MCM, second marathon ever.  Just going out to have fun, no real pressure.

Anyone who's done the race before...can you describe the runner's village setup, etc... Staying in Courthouse and trying to decide to walk/jog over to start (don't think I'll have to check a bag--weather dependent) vs. Metro.  I hear to prepare for a long walk from metro to runner's village and then to starting line.  Someone said I'd be better just taking metro to Rosslyn and walking to the start.

This is my first marathon in 4 years and it's hard to switch the get to transition early to get everything set up mindset, as oppose to just get to starting line and start running.

Chaos.  Everything is chaotic for this race, 25,000+ people will do that to a race.  I never check a bag, never have never will.  I wear throw away sweats or whatever and then just keep the "space blanket" for the trip home.

Awesome, thanks!

Non-existent! Trying to get past this foot issue.  It's not going to be a very good marathon to say the least but I'll do what I can!  Farthest I've run is 13 and that was a month ago.

I've done a few marathons so it's not like this is my first trip around the moon but I will be under prepared for it.

Exhausted, excited and for some strange reason I cannot stop eating - I'm constantly hungry!

Looks like it may be a warm day.
