Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 20-24
Age Group Rank = 1/
Pre-race routine:

I woke up at 5:00 this morning and ate two bananas and drank a little bit of gatorade endurance. Chilled with my wife before we took of for our races (she had a 10 mile race this morning). Met up with UTTriman and we took off for the race.
Event warmup:

No warmup. I know, I should be doing some sort of warmup, but I didn't feel like it, so I didn't.
Swim
  • 25m 30s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 42s / 100 meters
Comments:

I had a terrible time sighting on this swim. I honestly swam around 1600m. I also felt like I was one of the last out of the water, but that wasn't the case.
What would you do differently?:

I would site better :). I think that I need to get out in the OW more. I had only done three other OWS before this one, and this was my first race in the OW
Transition 1
  • 03m 44s
Comments:

I decided to take my time on the transition; I wasn't in a hurry to get out of there. I felt pretty good, just didn't want to forget anything.
What would you do differently?:

Umm... for that race nothing. It was my first olympic race afterall, so I decided to relax the whole way through
Bike
  • 1h 11m 50s
  • 24.9 miles
  • 20.80 mile/hr
Comments:

I really enjoyed the ride. It was very scenic. I ran over a little snake and had to swerve to avoid a family of skunks. I was concerned that one of the skunks had sprayed me, but I don't smell any worse than normal, so I think that I avoided a spray.
What would you do differently?:

I would like to get some aerobars with barend shifters. I'm not too concerned about it, but it sure would have helped during the ride back into the headwind.
Transition 2
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

My transition was ok. I got everything on as quickly as possible, but then I made sure that I had taken a nice swig of water and that I had composed myself.
What would you do differently?:

For my first Olympic, nothing. I was just out there to enjoy myself, not trying to set the world on fire ;).
Run
  • 40m 40s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 06m 33s  min/mile
Comments:

The course was ok. I'm not a huge out and back fan, but I don't hate it either. I had negative splits, and I felt that I drank well and felt good throughout. I got a bad cramp right before the fourth mile. That added roughly a minute to my time because I had to stop and stretch it, but I was able to get back at it and felt much better after stretching out.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. Maybe push a little harder over the last half of the race. I feel like I don't have a good base, so I need to continue building a base, but that's what this year is all about, building a very solid base in all three disciplines so that I can do well next year.
Post race
Warm down:

I ate a bunch of oranges and drank some Gatorade Endurance. I also walked around a bit, but no real cooldown.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My lack of a base.

Event comments:

I liked this race. It is supposed to be much better organized this next year. They had to cap the field significantly because of scheduling problems.

Wow! Talk about fast!!!! You kicked butt, particularly on the run. Any idea where you came in overall? My guess is that you were near the top. Way to go!

Nice job man -- it was tough to see you passing me at the beginning of the bike. I should have told you to stay in the sprint.

It was great to meet you and I really look forward to training with you and Brett. Get your wife on the ball and get the group hardware photo posted in your album. Tell her a 10 mile race is no excuse for mediocrity -- that is reserved for poly sci guys.

Lol, sorry that I gave you the indication that I just lurked in COJ.  I haven't allowed myself to do any races recently until I took the LSAT last Monday.  Trust me, I have been chomping at the bit to race, but I have had a practice LSAT every Saturday morning for the practically the past 6 months with the exception of March 25th, when I raced the Icebreaker Pool Triathlon.

Forget the legal career. At this point, you'll have sponsors lining up with cash to support your pro triathlon career

I opt to wear shorts to school to show off the body marking for a while.  That's my subtle plug for my weekend activities Wink.  Are you wearing your medal to work today?

Pimping the hardware and the T-Shirt big time.  Should be more humble about this, but ... I've never taken first at ANYTHING athletic in my life!  You guys witnessed HISTORY, probably never to be repeated last Saturday!   (unless it's in the Drewathlon.  Then I might have a slim chance of 2nd Overall!    )
