Sunny
Total Time = 3h 50m 57s
Overall Rank = /212
Age Group = Clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 11/12
Pre-race routine:

Light breakfast, just some bananas and applesauce.
Some yoga to stretch and center myself.
Event warmup:

The previously mentioned yoga.
Swim
  • 52m 36s
  • 1640 yards
  • 03m 13s / 100 yards
Comments:

I did horribly on this. I could not forward crawl through the chop. The side stroke and the back stroke were my friends.
What would you do differently?:

Forward crawl a lot more.
Transition 1
  • 07m 13s
Comments:

I have to put my bike shoes on before leaving transition. My bike shoes are actually meant for mountain biking. I might upgrade one of these days.
I also wasted some time putting on the toe socks I wear when doing more than 5k in my Vibram FiveFingers running shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Not wear toe socks. A better swim would help as well, I cramped up a little, and massaged it out during T1.
Bike
  • 1h 23m 24s
  • 24.5 miles
  • 17.63 mile/hr
Comments:

I could have done better. This was not one of my better cycling performances. I have some mechanical issues to fix.
I am thinking of doing some upgrades to my bike, if not upgrading to an all together better bike.
What would you do differently?:

Perform better in the swim. I use the ride to recover from the swim before the run. Too much of the ride was spent recovering.
Transition 2
  • 03m 27s
Comments:

Shoe changes are lengthy when you use mountain biking shoes for the ride.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Just don't have the funds to get better equipment yet.
Run
  • 1h 23m 49s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 13m 30s  min/mile
Comments:

I gassed out and suffered a lot of cramping. Kept pushing, though. I did walk a lot, but I kept going!
What would you do differently?:

Run more, walk less.
Post race
Warm down:

Just walked it off.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Had a bad day before the race. Only had about 2 hours of sleep before driving 1.5 hours to get to the race.
Training exclusively in a pool left me ill prepared for the swim, also. I wasn't ready for the choppiness.
