I'm looking ahead to next year's race calendar and my bike shipping options for Hawaii 70.3 and Louisville. What bike shipping companies are available to ship from Oahu? When I checked Tri Bike Transport, it didn't ship to Louisville this year and the race calendar didn't include what happened for Hawaii 70.3 this year.

Thanks!

Um, I believe the answer is "none."  We don't have any dedicated bike shipping services in Hawaii, so you have to either:

  1. Check it in as luggage on your flight
  2. Send it ahead as air cargo (may be cheaper, but I don't know)
  3. Send it with others in a small container on Young Brothers Barge (never done this before)
  4. Have your local bike shop pack and ship it UPS to bike shop on Hawaii Island where they will put it back together for you (likely the most expensive option).

Anyone else have any ideas or experience with any of these options?

I used Aloha Air Cargo a few years back to ship from Kauai to Oahu, Just wheel it there, I had foam noddles protection and It went fine.

My friends got together and shipped it on a container via young bros, but that took a bit longer, that is why I used Aloha air...

I had a friend do Louisville this past year and she shipped her bike, I will ask what she did, but she is in Portagal right now running a Marathon...

Tri bike transport was at Honu 70.3 the last two years I did it.  I didn't use them, but know people who did.  They offer the service from the mainland US to Kona, but stop in Honolulu on the way there.  Not sure if they stop in Maui which is why Di may have had that response.  You could drop your bike off at BOCA Hawaii or IT&B, and it was due on Tuesday I think.

I would fully expect them to be back next year.  The race has sold out the past 2-3 years and a lot of mainland folks travel, so there still must be a need for them.

Obviously, there isn't a big population going from Hawaii to Louisville, so you can imagine TBT isn't offered for that race from Hawaii.

Thanks for the information. I think I may be looking into a bike travel case now. Something indestructible.
