Age Group Rank = 3/15
Pre-race routine:

Clif Bar for breakfast, drove down from Memphis
Event warmup:

Rode abuot 5 miles, swam 200m
Swim
  • 13m 35s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

I got myself at the star of the first wave but managed pretty well. I had to stop 3 times total, either to site or after getting kicked. I maybe could have saved 30sec overall off this time, but not a bad swim. Came out of the water in good shape
Transition 1
  • 00m 52s
Comments:

Had about a 40yard uphill run on the beach to get to Transition Area. Feet covered with sand
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 51m 12s
  • 18.5 miles
  • 21.68 mile/hr
Comments:

I had trouble with my front derailleur after the turnaraound, and it took the better part of a mile to get up on my big chainring. I only got passed by 7 people, all in other age groups. The shifter issue really pissed me off, as I had the bike mechanic work on it before the race. I need to push it harder on the bike and not worry so much about saving up for the run
What would you do differently?:

Push it harder. I could have picked up at least 1 minute if not more without much of a problem
Transition 2
  • 00m 42s
Comments:

My neighbors bag had fallen into the slot for my bike. I had move around and pick it up so my bike ahd somewhere to go
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Run
  • 29m 43s
  • 4 miles
  • 07m 26s  min/mile
Comments:

Hit (what I think was) the first mile in right a 7:00. The loop in the woods was hilly, and I walked through the 2nd water stop. Otherwise, a pretty strong run for me. I picked it up the last 1/4 mile and felt surprisingly strong. Maybe I left a little too much in the tank.
What would you do differently?:

Push a bit harder once I got back to the road for the last mile, and not walk the water station.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked from Transition area to car (about 1/4mile) twice. Bottle of water, and another of Gatorade

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Myself. I think I was too worried about going too hard on the bike and bonking on the run. I had a great first mile of the run, meaning my legs were still strong. I ended up well, too, but felt like I could have pushed it a little more. This was my first ever age group award, so I am very happy about that, but I left some time on the course that I need to pick up.

Event comments:

S2F did another good job with race organization. Course is nice and well marked I've got no qualms with the race.
