Augusta, Georgia

Overcast
Total Time = 5h 53m 32s
Overall Rank = 1613/3335
Age Group = 35-40
Age Group Rank = 251/416
Pre-race routine:

Ate usual Fiber One Muffins around 4:00. Same thing I eat everyday. Got to Transition way too early. One of the first ones there. It was nice to set up without anyone around, but should have slept in for another hour. I sat around for a long time. Had a Bonk Breaker about an hour before my start. Had a GU about 20 minutes before start. Had around 48 oz of water and 2 diet Mountain Dews.
Event warmup:

Light stretching.
Swim
  • 32m 1s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 31s / 100 yards
Comments:

First 200m was a little rough. Had a tough time breathing. Heart rate got a little too high. Settled down and had a nice swim. It was a little different swimming through some seaweed. It got on my nerves. I vouldnt find anyone to draft off of.
What would you do differently?:

Need more experience to figure out drafting. Seems like I always find somebody that goes off course.
Transition 1
  • 05m 29s
Comments:

Had wetsuit strippers. That was awesome! Sat down to put on socks and shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Need to rush a little more.
Bike
  • 3h 01m 15s
  • 56 miles
  • 18.54 mile/hr
Comments:

Averaged 19.57 for first 30.8 miles. 17.42 coming home. Nice and flat for the first 25-30 miles. Got a little hilly at 30-45. Hit the hills and legs started to burn so I calmed down a bit. Nutrition went well. Wanted to avg 19, but I'll take 18.5. Could have pushed it, but wanted to save legs. I had a good time on the loop.
What would you do differently?:

Practice bottle swaps. I have never done it. Kinda tricky....dodging other riders, getting your water/nutrition, getting out of there.
Transition 2
  • 03m 49s
Comments:

It was okay. 30 seconds of T2 was to pee. Went twice on the bike :0, but still had to before I started the run course.
What would you do differently?:

Have a sense of urgency.
Run
  • 2h 10m 58s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m  min/mile
Comments:

My time was higher than my usual 13.1, but that's to be expected. My goal was run the whole thing. I did that. Had some GI issues at mile 11. Went away around mile 12. I ended up eating a banana because my calves were starting to cramp a bit. It helped my cramps, but killed my stomach.
What would you do differently?:

Try to stick with nutrition plan. Train with a variety of different foods.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Experience.

Event comments:

Awesome race. I had so much fun. Very organized. Lots of volunteers. Lots of swag. I'm spoiled having done an m dot in my first year of racing. Overall, I am very pleased with the race. A few people told me it wasn't a good idea to do a 70.3 in my 1st year, much less my 2nd triathlon. Experience was a big factor, but I was prepared and it went better that I thought it would go. My goal was 6:15:00 and I smoked it.

good job out there! The bottle swap stations were a nightmare Sunday! No way to train for dodging people while grabbing bottles haha.
