Anyone else planning on doing this race?  I understand it is in a new location at Lake Anna (Boxley Cove).

Doing the sprint on Sunday...  Did Rumpass in the spring and it was mostly the same course as this one---they changed the run course (should be better then the last minute location change for rumpass).

Not sure if you've seen this but Setup announced that the water temp. was 83.  Seems a bit high.  I have a feeling that tomorrow morning it will be wetsuit legal but who knows.  I'm excited.  I've never done this race.

83 does sound a bit high.  Guess the power plant has been working overtime :-)  I'm glad they changed the run course from Rumpass as I heard some grumbling from those that did it.  One thing a friend mentioned was to bring some old shoes to walk down to the swim start.  I gather it is a bit of a hike from the transition area to the start.  See you all tomorrow - good luck!!

83* definitely seems high (how much power are folks using in that area?!?!?!).

Yes the change in the run course is a good thing!!  The walk to the swim wasn't so much the distance as the chunky/largish "gravel" that you had to try and walk on---very hard on the feet!!

Good luck to those of you racing tomorrow!!  I'm hoping the rain holds off on Sun am for the sprint---the 50* air will be enough for me...

From twitter 6mins ago---water temp is now down to 80*      I'm sure they'll find a spot that's wetsuit legal with it dropping 3* in hoursSurprised

Oh, I guess I need to be on twitter to know the water temp!
Well, no matter, I don't race with a wetsuit anyway. But I guess I'd prefer the water not to be HOT.

How do you think flip flops would work for the run from the water to transition?  Can't exactly run fast in flip flops but they would be quick on, quick off.  Or is it not bad enough to worry about?  How do you know your bib number at this point?  I don't remember ever seeing it until packet pickup.

the run back to transition is different than the walk down to the swimstart.  Having flip flops or sandals was handy at Rumpass for the walk down because of stones.  My wife brought them back for me.  the run from the finish to transistion is all grass so bare feet is fine.

Won't know bib number till you pick up your race packet

Does anyone know if a) there is a water bottle hand off on the bike, and b) if there are port-a-potties anywhere on the run?

There wasn't a water bottle hand off in 2009 or 2010.  Maybe just for HIMs?

79 - so not wetsuit legal for us.  Nice day, even a little warm on the run.  The bike will probably be chilly tomorrow, but the run might be okay if the rain holds off.  Hope it goes well for you!

Thanks much!!  Yeah I was wondering about the temp on the run today---seemed like it might be a bit warmer then perhaps expected!  I have a funny feeling that they will happen to find a spot that's wetsuit legal for the sprint---seems that happens sometimes--not legal for Oly but legal for sprint the next day...

Right, no water bottle hand-off. The race I was thinking of that had one was a Richmond Multisports race.

Does anyone know how long the bike course was?  I didn't have my gps and the website contradicts itself.  It says 40k in one spot but then describes the course as 23 miles.  That's a difference of 1.85 miles.  I'd like to know my mph.  Good race though.  I'd do it again.

Can't say for sure as I screwed up my start and end on my Garmin, but based on my average on-course speed and time it should be approx. 23.3 miles.

I get just over 23 miles based on my time and my computer's average speed; I didn't clock the beginning of the race while I remembered how to reset my bike computer.

Did anyone else have a slower than expected swim time? That was my first nonwetsuit swim race, but I added 3-4 minutes over earlier races. It seems the fast swim times were a little slower than normal (21:45); doesn't some speed demon usually manage a 19 minute swim?

I was slow as well, but I had more problems with congestion than usual and went off course pretty well in the 2nd half.
