Age Group Rank = 9/36
Pre-race routine:

wake up 5:00
pb-n-j 1/2 cup coffee
espresso gu 20 minutes before race
Event warmup:

rode bike from camp site to check gears
run apx 1/2 mile or so
swim a few strokes
Swim
  • 12m 52s
  • 656 yards
  • 01m 58s / 100 yards
Comments:

pretty decent swim. gained a full minute on last year. got off course after the second bouy. A lot of traffic from the wave before but didn't have much traffice in the first stretch, oddly
What would you do differently?:

I didn't push myself as hard as I could have. I don't know why I'm afraid to attack during the swim
Transition 1
  • 01m 8s
Comments:

my rubber band fell off right away and I didn't realize it, I lost a shoe dragging on the ground and had to go back for it. That slowed my mojo
Bike
  • 50m 19s
  • 15 miles
  • 17.89 mile/hr
Comments:

winds really killed me. Again, I was afraid to attack and it really showed. The turn around stopped me almost in my tracks. I lowered my gear to maintain some cadence and I should have kept it up there and grunted it out for the 4 miles or so.
Transition 2
  • 00m 43s
Run
  • 28m 25s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

couldn't get my breath. Felt totally over extended but how can I tell without my HR monitor? almost exactly same time as last year's 28:23.
What would you do differently?:

remember my HR monitor! I don't know what else I'm doing wrong that I didn't get any faster on the run this year. I felt slower, actually. I need more high HR training but less often, I think.
Post race
Warm down:

what? other than pee, eat and bathe.

Event comments:

I love this race. I will be back every year as long as I'm able.

Great Job! Next time us BTers need to make sure to meet up. The run was tough for me, but that only teaches me I have to train harder in that area for the next race.
