Sunny
Total Time = 1h 32m 7s
Overall Rank = 32/1417
Age Group = M40-44
Age Group Rank = 3/67
Pre-race routine:

Drove to our rented cabin the day before the race. Met my sister and her family and my niece who were also doing the 1/2.
Slept fairly well and got up at 5am. No scales at the cabin, but weighed in at 207 day before...

I haven't raced anything since doing this same race 3 years ago. Decided I needed to start getting back in shape and started chipping at it about 2 1/2 months ago.
Event warmup:

Got to race start about 35 minutes ahead of the 9am start. Temps were in the mid 30's....brrr!
Got some stretching done and about 10 minutes of slow jogging to get warm then headed for the start line.

Run
  • 1h 32m 7s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 07m 02s  min/mile
Comments:

Started out with hopes that I could run about a 7:45 pace, but felt good to start and just went with it. Ran the first 3 miles in the 6:40's then ran very consistent 7's for most of the race. The last 2 miles were on loose sand and twisty trails in the woods along the river. That really slowed my pace, but everyone had to deal with it.
This was a PR for me.. Not sure how I ran that pace with very little training and fitness, but I'll take it!
Ended up with a podium finish in my AG placing 3rd.
Very happy with this one!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing!
Post race
Warm down:

Enjoyed the food and watching friends and family finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need more training, but I'm not complaining.

Wow good report and a nice race.  Hmmm, what could you do if you put some serious training into it.  Nice job.

Thanks Spence! Kinda surprised myself today....Obviously the real fast guys in my AG didn't show up today! No way I should've been on the podium. :-)
