Subject: BT KQers....

I read this article and enjoyed it.

That said, I thought it was a bit strange that the 4 people who qualified have either private logs (3 of them) or do not log their training (1 of them)

With regard to having private logs, I think that is perfectly fine and acceptable--I am sure they have great reasons--not the point of this thread.

With that said, there must be KQers on this site who log and have that information open for us to see--

Or do most KQers on BT keep private logs?

to the folks who were in the article, I'd love to be added to your friends list!

anyway, a random thought...................

Several reasons could be for this. WIth that said I have a large group of friends racing in Kona on Saturday as well as I know many that are running next April. I know of a few that really do keep their training "secret" they train themselves and really take a lot of pride in their training. However one even says he doesn't divulge too much info because it works for him, but not 100% going to work for someone else, he will talk forever informally about his training, what his does/doesnt do. Others share their training logs, I know Bryancd on here does. Too each their own. I post all my workouts, but at the same point in time they are not my workouts, they are my coaches and therefore his property. By me posting his workouts I am technically giving away his coaching services for free. Although if you are calling a coach someone who only gives out workouts then I want to know what your definition of a coach is. Now that I am rambling I will end here, hope this gives some reasons why some post and others don't. Oh of course there is the reason that people log their workouts somewhere else, TP, Excel, Google docs, etc.

that wasnt my Q....

I don't (really) care why some users have private logs.....I am sure they are valid and reasonable reasons.

My question was why didn't BT interview folks that have public logs....that would make more sense....(though that really wasn't clear in my first post--sorry!)

Maybe they dont exist...???

Am I the only one who added these folks to their friends list, then clicked on their logs???

There are others that are not on your friends list. I know of one that has a public log.

What do you mean by this? Interview? Could you elaborate on that some more? Some of them do post on here from time to time. Some more than others.

They should have interviewed Bryan... Foot in mouth

FWIW, Bryan's logs are public and I know he still (or as of recently was) logs his training here.

There was an "Ask Me Anything" type thread after his race at St George.

Mike, you are not alone.  I will leave it at that.

BUT, good to have you back logging.  I need you for my swim motivation!

Though I did not attempt a KQ this year I did qualify and raced in 2010. I have kept my logs open for all to see and have no problem with anyone asking questions. I have used a coach for my KQ and will be getting going with him again next month. I could not even think of KQing without a coach to lead, push, and hold me back when necessary.

In fact, if you want to see how someone struggles mentally to keep it going as they prepare for another KQ attempt at IMCDA you can see all the ugly truths on my log.

Thanks!

And in getting back to the OP's question, it doesn't look like there is a very big list of people who fit this criteria of both qualifying for Kona and have open logs. Then they have to have time for and want to be interviewed.

I think the question was specific to this year, but I went last year, 2006 and '97. Started logging here in 2005 and logs are public, so both attempts are open to all to critique.

Probably because those are the only BTers going to Kona this year.

Training logs of KQers aren't much different from logs of many others on BT.

It is possible that others were asked but declined to be interviewed.  No sense speculating about reasons why an individual was or was not included in the article.  It's just another way of spreading things like gossip that may not have any basis for truth.

x2

I look at Bryan's log from time to time, as well as other athletes who are close to KQ caliber and there really isn't anything ground breaking in there.  Consistancy is the most common theme across the board.

I thought Bryancd had been removed from BT. Still not sure why. Seemed to be very informative.

His posting privileges have been revoked.  He can still use the training logs and inspires, and currently does so.

It is my feeling that everyone who had Kona listed in their race log was contacted.  I'm guessing the people in the article were the ones who agreed to answer a few questions.

And it's not like that was a big list. On top of that, only some of the people who were in had open logs. What other option did the BT interviewer have?

And like wiky said, there really isn't going to be anything earth shattering in there. Just a lot of workouts done very well over a long period of time.
