Run
Comments: Started off well, and slowly caught back up to front of the pack. One guy was off the front and pulling away. Quickly in the first 10, and managed to pull into 3rd after the first 2/3 miles. Given my recently low running volume, I was surprised to see the first mile marker in only six minutes. Pace stayed steady (hard, of course), and slowly made up ground on 2nd place. Pulled ahead of him just after the halfway point. Never looked back and just kept pushing. Thought I was slowing because of the headwind the last 1/2 mile; so I kept pushing hard. Still, was shocked to see what the final time was. What would you do differently?: Nothing Post race
Warm down: Laid down to catch my breath. Then got up and jogged back on the course to find Beth and Alexa. They had just over 1/2 mile to go, so I ran back with them. Alexa even out-sprinted Beth to the finish! Then I turned around and jogged the 1k with Ryan. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing. Event comments: My new 5k PR!! (20 sec faster than last year) Great little community race. It's a fun family atmosphere, with activities and bounce houses for the kids, and a number of runners with dogs, plus the 1K run. They organize it well (e.g. dog runners and strollers asked to start farther back). Had bagels, apples, bananas, lemonade. Did a better job this year getting through the awards pretty quickly.
