Subject: Louisville IM best accomodations?

Thinking about Louisville next year, is the Galt House the best accommodations?  Any other nice locations, and when do they typically fill up?

I would check with  Marriot. I have been to Louisville the last 2 years. First year I stayed at Marriot and this year I stayed at Galt. I was happier at the Marriot. Dont get me wrong, the Galt house was very nice, and convenient, but they just seemed to "nickel and dime" us to death. And the Marriot was just a little further from the transition area compared to the Galt. When I registered for the Marriot, I was able to get a room in February, but also a guy I know who came down to watch, got a race a week before too, may have just been luck. Hope this helps.

I stayed in the Hyatt the year I did LOU.  It is close enough to everything and very close to the finish, which I ended up being VERY grateful for....LOL.

I have heard other complaints about the Galt House, but cannot speak from personal experience.

I stayed at the Galt House a few years back when I did IMKY. I a had friends who stayed out a mile or two and they said never again. I thought it was reasonably priced and perfect location for everything. One of the easier accomodations for an IM that I have done.

x2.  The Hyatt is the place to be.  They just spent $8 million to renovate the lobby, restaurant & other common areas.  Last year I could see the finish line from my hotel room window.  It is nice to be so close to the finish once you are done.

The Galt House has the expo and athlete check in and the hotel is just chaotic all weekend long.  Not the atmosphere I prefer, I guess.  YMMV.

Another vote for the marriot. It was only a few blocks from transition and they had bag breakfast for us ready the night before the race and had towels that we could use to wipe down our bikes.

I've stayed at the Galt House twice, 2008 and 2009.  My family and I really enjoyed the hotel, but we liked being in the middle of everything.

The one negative I experienced in 2008 was the elevators 1-2 hours before bike check in were jammed.  In 2009, I check the bike in early and just watched the chaos.

We stayed at the Galt this year and liked the location, I prefer to just walk downstairs to the expo and it was super convenient to roll out of bed (quite literally) the morning after the race to get finisher's gear. I didn't think the walk back to the hotel was that bad post race.

I was nervous about the elevator situation but we got lucky with a 3rd floor room so we could just use the escalators to get to our room, plus we were on the same level as the bar

Good move.  Second time around I called ahead of the race several times and made sure we were on the third floor. So much easier using the escalators.

Residence Inn Louisville East.

It's about a 10 min drive from downtown.  2 bedroom suites, full kitchen, 2 bathrooms.   All for about half the price of staying Downtown.

Marriot or Hyatt unless you like staying in an old overpriced hotel and like waiting 10+ minutes for elevators.

x2 I stayed in Jeffersonville as it was soooo much cheaper, with a kitchen, an easy drive across the river, and I wanted to stay away from the race "hype" of Galt House and the like. It was perfect for me.

Marriott (Ask for Monty) or the Hyatt (Ask for Chris). I'm from Louisville and those two are probably the 2 best. They're both connected to each other and close to finish. (Full disclosure, I'm from Louisville and negotiated hotel agreements with both hotels for my old company)

Marriott: Nicer, newer guest rooms, full service. Higher end hotel, but very expensive.

Hyatt: Nice guest rooms, not as new as Marriott, but very nice. Recent renovation of the lobby and all restaurants. More affordable option and save some money for finisher gear. Right on the finish line. Easy from finish line to shower to bed.

Hope this helps!
