Elite 4344 | Subject: UCI confirms Armstrong ban, strips him of seven Tour titles Velonews reports the UCI decision to back the USADA report. UCI chief Pat McQuaid said it would strip Armstrong of all of his Tour de France titles, adding “Lance Armstrong has no place in cycling.” The titles will remain vacant, recognizing the extent of doping and the unequal investigation of other riders in those years. |

Subject: RE: UCI confirms Armstrong ban, strips him of seven Tour titles and thus the witch hunt ends. At least I hope so. I quit caring whether or not he doped three/four years ago on the 50th or so "investigation" they did and that was back when it actually mattered to the record books because he was still at least partially in the game. The only real loser in this is pro cycling. If they're going to witch hunt every time they get someone good who never fails their drug tests, it's not about doping, it's about personality conflicts. |

Glad to see the titles stripped and left vacant. Nothing else would have been reasonable. |

Nonetheless, a decision (in either direction...albeit the UCI could only pick the one they did without risking collapsing themselves) is finally a step down the road. |

Champion 9407 Montague Gold Mines, Nova Scotia | Subject: RE: UCI confirms Armstrong ban, strips him of seven Tour titles I'm surprised that Pat McQuaid didn't try to find some way to water the title issue a little more; I expected simply an * for the doping years (not just Armstrong) combined with the rumoured opportunity for athletes to come forward about doping with no repurcussions. Based on what was in the reasoned decision, I don't expect that McQuaid wants Armstrong to be upset enough to come forward and spill all the beans. Shane |

Expert 1130 Fernandina Beach, FL | Subject: RE: UCI confirms Armstrong ban, strips him of seven Tour titles Not to defend Lance at all, but if what I've read is true (and it may not be who knows in this scandal anymore), the UCI is no better than Lance. On one hand you see Nike say "Lance lied to us for the last decade". Turn the page and you can find an article where Nike paid off the UCI to the tune of $500,000. It's all about the almighty dollar. It's just a shame what this whole situation does for the Livestrong Foundation |

Nonetheless, a decision (in either direction...albeit the UCI could only pick the one they did without risking collapsing themselves) is finally a step down the road. It seems Schleck and Evans are safe but with all the rumors this summer I wonder how long it will be till Wiggins has to endure this kind of attention. I would guess if he has another season as good as this year then his number may be up. It's a shame that it has come to this where when someone wins by a decent margin everyone immediately thinks of doping. I hope pro cycling can squash any further scandals and let us enjoy our sport again. |

Shane McQuaid's statements surrounding the Armstrong ruling indicate that more decisions are coming. He mentioned a management meeting this week to consider the options. |

Veteran 1384 Panama City, FL | Subject: RE: UCI confirms Armstrong ban, strips him of seven Tour titles The "I never failed a drug test" defense is tired, played and apparently means nothing really, when reading the evidence, and it does not tell the whole story. All that means is that he knew how to beat the test or conceal in that as well. Nobody ever alleged the "testing" was fullproof- especially back in 90s early 2000s. In baseball for example, it was well known, you never got tested (under the CBA) during off season. They knew what they were taking would only take a few days to be "out of system" or undetectable. Dope for several months out of year, cut back and "pass" tests with flying colors. What's even more crazy are the articles speculating that his doping actually CAUSED his cancer to start with. Crazy. |

Give to the American Cancer Society. Lance was/is the face of the charity so I can see where your hostility is coming from. To say it was built with dirty money is crazy and I'm sure it's mostly anger. I agree there are a number of charities to give to that will benefit cancer patients and research. Also take this information for what it's worth but Livestrong actually rates higher as a nonprofit than the American Cancer Society according to charitynavigatgor.org
FWIW I don't donate to the Livestrong Foundation. I choose to give local (The Donna Foundation) Edited by rjrankin83 2012-10-22 9:54 AM |

This makes about as much sense as saying that you wouldn't give to the Christian Children's Fund because you don't like how fat Sally Struthers has gotten.

Veteran 148 | Subject: RE: UCI confirms Armstrong ban, strips him of seven Tour titles I don't know where I read it, but a summary of power output from this years Tour, compared to 10 years ago showed a 10% drop in power. An implication that hunting dopers is having effect, presumably.... |

Sad people thinking giving to Livestrong is giving to Lance Also where did you read doping CAUSED his cancer? On the "his doping caused his cancer in the first place" idea, that information is in the Sports Illustrated article from this week and summarized here: He had a heartwarming recovery from cancer, but Sports Illustrated reported that his testicular cancer could be one of said smoke alarms, as the alleged steroids, testosterone, cortisone, growth hormone, and EPO potentially did the damage to his body, causing the cancer. That's disturbing IMO. As for doping causing his cancer. What won't people say causes cancer? I thought it was holding the remote control in his lap |

Veteran 1384 Panama City, FL | Subject: RE: UCI confirms Armstrong ban, strips him of seven Tour titles I don't think there will ever be a difinitive link in his case about the drugs "causing" his cancer, but apparently these are well known side effects and risks associated with these drugs. Great article on all this in SI. I mean, this is not information coming from some crazy bloggers online, this is LA Times, SI, and many other "sources". Now, can we all see how it's only a matter of time before Livestrong as we know it is gone? |
