Sunny
Total Time = 10h 25m 59s
Overall Rank = 29/415
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 1/93
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 3:00 am ate a bagel with Netella, 2 packets of oatmeal and 1 banana. Got on the trolley at the hotel and froze my way to transition 1. All in all, it was an uneventful calm morning.
Event warmup:

Stood around in the water and made sure my goggles were wetand adjusted. Water felt great.
Swim
  • 58m 52s
  • 4224 yards
  • 01m 23s / 100 yards
Comments:

I really need to step up my swim. I always feel fresh out of the water, but I really need to be a swimmer that puts a better effort of being faster. I just don't like it that much. I felt comfortable in the water just slow.
What would you do differently?:

Be a better swimmer.
Transition 1
  • 04m 37s
Comments:

Wetsuit strippers were great. I did not hide a pair of shoes, but I did wear the Blue Seventy booties which helped alot on the long transition run.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 5h 21m 57s
  • 112 miles
  • 20.87 mile/hr
Comments:

I really enjoyed the bike course. This is a course where the trainer really helps because if you stop pedaling you pretty much stop moving. I always feel lucky when I don't flat because I always seem to see a couple and it really does add to the time and anxiety of the race
What would you do differently?:

Train harder!
Transition 2
  • 04m 15s
Comments:

It got a little congested in the shoot with the half distance folks going a little slow, but the volunteers really kept things moving and did a great job.
What would you do differently?:

Practice dimounting with my shoes on the pedals, so I can perform a faster dismount.
Run
  • 3h 50m 21s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 08m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt pretty good on the run. As I would get a cramp, I just slowed my pace and was able to carry on without stopping.
What would you do differently?:

More run training.
Post race
Warm down:

Got under a space blanket and ate pizza. Then went back to the Hilton for a shower. Went back out and ate again.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not getting an overtaking penalty. I remeber when it was, but I was technically at fault. Learn for next time.

Event comments:

This is my second time doing this race, and I really like the new course lay out. This is a spectacular race, and I will probably try it again next year.

I was Bib #566.  Judging by your teams swim time, we were probably close on the bike.  You definitely had a faster transition than I did.

Congrats on the 1st place AG.  I went back to our hotel room after the hHIM, took a shower and rested for aobut 30 minutes then drove back to watch some of you finish.  Got there just in time to see the 1st place woman come in.  You Full guys/gals certainly have my respect!!!!

Thanks!  I saw the lead female on the run course, and she was laying it down!  One tough lady!
