Yesterday I invented a new bike work out. Its called "Hit every damn red light on the way out, check watch and realize you have to ride balls out on the way back to have any chance of getting daughter to soccer practice". My legs are still burning but its nothing compared to the wrath I would have faced if I hadn't booked it home. Seems like all I've been doing the past couple weeks is sitting at stop lights. What are some of your favorite east valley bike routes with minimal stop lights/traffic?
Where about do you live and how many miles are you looking for?? There are a few...I start on Dobson and Pecos so a lot of my rides start from there. Heading out to Maricopa is a "go to" since I'm 2 miles from Queen Creek and I can go on a 20+ stretch straight to Maricopa without one light. Or you can take that route, but turn right on Riggs to go through the reservation and around South Mountain that also has very minimal stops. You can also head down Pecos out to Ellsworth and head North all the way past Usery Pass and can even go around to Bush Highway and end up on the Beeline...There are miles and miles out there without any stops.
Oh yeah, the beeline...The beeline is full of cyclists and very few stops if you head out from Tempe Town Lake or you can just park at JRs convenience store.
We're in south Chandler and usually head south for long rides without lights... (the route to Maricopa is a pretty good one as well. Or cut over through the casino and do some rollers on Pecos.)
Here are a few we'll do-

Mostly wide shoulders, once you go south of Riggs, you'll not hit a light for a long time...
I live at Power and Guadalupe. I ride up in the Usery Pass/Bush Hwy area. I try to avoid that stretch between the Beeline and Saguaro lake. Blind corners, no bike lane, and lots of people with big boats and trailers. I'll definitely have to try some of those routes out in the south Chandler, Ahwatukee area. Message me if you guys want some company on a ride. I'm pretty flexible time wise. Thanks for the replies.
I live in the same area and i find it the easiest to drive to the park and ride on 40th and pecos and start from there. Pecos is well traveled and good bike lane, then out through the casino and out to copa... or up through desert foothills for some hills. You can even go around south mountain for a long flat ride
