I'm getting custom made orthotics for my running.  My Chiropractor recommended them.  Anyone have experience with them?  I'd like to move from Brooks Adrenaline running shoes to Newtons.  I'm hoping the combination will work.

Of course I can't tell you how you'll like the orthotics but I can tell you I wear mine while running and I haven't had any issues with them.

In fairness I'm pretty much a beginner runner and so far I haven't gone more than 10K at a time but I don't anticipate any problems going longer as I gradually increase my distance.  I also can't comment on Brooks or Newtons except to say I have heard some very positive comments on the Newtons.

I would only add I'm not a great fan of rigid orthotics.  I like them to be somewhat flexible to move with my feet as I run.

Thanks for the info.  My main problem is that my left leg is a bit longer than my right, so I am imbalanced.  I've also got somewhat flat feet.  I'll post a follow up when I get everything.

I wear my orthotics every day at work.  I tried them in my running shoes but didn't really like them.  Make sure you take the time to let your feet adjust to the orthotic. Wear for a couple of hours each day and gradually build up to wearing them all day.  I wouldn't run in them until you can wear them all day in normal shoes.  I have a new pair of orthotics being made right now. There going to be a little thinner and I'm going to try to run with the new ones.  My podiatrists told me that some people will wear the orthotic all the time but still can not run with them in.

I've had custom orthotics.  I like the feel of my Superfeet insoles better (for $40)

I much prefer running shoes without the insoles.  If you need support- they make shoes that will provide the support you need.

as for one leg being shorter- you could put a flat insert into one of your shoes.

Custom orthotics are probably helpful to some people, but for most, I think it's a scam.
