Subject: Ogden Triathlon
I was thinking about signing up for the Ogden Triathlon in September. I'll be making the trip from Boise, ID to do the olympic distance race. Anybody have any helpful info about the race?

I noticed on the website that the bike is long for an Oly distance race (33 miles)... But what's the course like? Hilly?

Thanks,
Dawn

I can't be to much help, I haven't done that event before. I would be joining you, but will be in the middle of my Marathon training for an October race. Good luck in the event, I am sure some of the Utah BT'ers will be able to help you with info.

The course circles around Pineview reservior once for sprint and twice for oly. There are rolling hills around most of the lake, with a few flat stretches. Overall, it's a pretty fast course because there are no real long uphill sections and few sharp turns.

It is a bit on the long side, so just make sure you train for the extra distance.

I'll be doing the Oly distance there this year, too. Hope to see you there!

Thanks for the info. Rolling hills are fine, I just didn't want to get there and find out that I really needed a compact crank and 27 tooth cog.

I second what RunningFoo said. I'd wear a wetsuit as the water is a little bit chilly by that time (trust me on that one!), but the course is not very hilly and the run is actually enjoyable. They should post an elevation profile and race map on the triutah website.

I am doing the Ogden race as my first Tri. I just went up there yesterday and did the bike and run course. For a new person I probably was slow, it is rolling hills, but is a very beautiful ride and I think if you are familiar with the bike part of the race as it sounds like you are, you should go pretty fast and enjoy it. On the other hand I will probably be working my tail off to keep up. I have gone there a few times to ski, you can probably handle the chillie water. but it is a lot better with a wetsuit. I will be wearing one.
