Total Time = 2h 57m 42s
Overall Rank = 69/157
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 11/17
Pre-race routine:

Stayed at the Firewater Lodge downtown to enjoy the hot springs. Holt crap they are hot. The bath was in the room which was nice but I couldn't take the heat for very long. Got up and had sweet potatoes and headed tot he race venue. Set up transition and got ready for the race. pretty standard stuff here. The lake was way down from transition so I went a head and wore some shoes down tot he water to run back up in I have wimpy feet what can I say.
Event warmup:

Walking down to the water!
Swim
  • 36m 8s
  • 1760 yards
  • 02m 03s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swim was okay I kept getting caught behind someone who was alternating breast and crawl. Finally got in the clear after the first buoy and had a good swim from there. I like the one lap course and sighted very well and maintained my line well. Started to get caught by the fast ladies right towards the end.
What would you do differently?:

Swim more next season maybe work on some speed drills I don't know maybe get a coach?
Transition 1
  • 04m 38s
Comments:

Wet suit strippers. . . . engage! That was nice.

This was a race in itself getting back to T1, no big deal but explains the 5 min T time.
What would you do differently?:

Toughen up the feet!
Bike
  • 1h 23m
  • 26.5 miles
  • 19.16 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike was a good challenge. It was fun and the reward return trip downhill back to T2 was a blast. The road all the way out was chip sealed this summer so it was rough. That on an Al tri bike will wear your out. May have to seriously look at a carbon frame next year. I am getting older you know.
What would you do differently?:

Getting better with more seat time.
Transition 2
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

Good T2
Run
  • 52m 52s
  • 6 miles
  • 08m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

When I got tot he turn on the bike i looked at my time and figured I was gonna have to average 25+mph on the way back and run a sub 55min run to break 3 hours. This course is the hardest of all the open water courses and I did my part on the bike it was just a matter of doing the run.

I gutted it out and had a good run. I carried a water bottle with me the whole time which helped. They had plenty of aid stations so I didn't need it, but it was nice to have to just sip on the whole way. It started to get hot right at the end.
What would you do differently?:

Great end to a great season.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, won a door prize for some t-shirts from the local town hereo, "Blue."

Event comments:

Heros puts on a great event. There is talk of them reducing or eliminating races next year and I hope they don't. The RD is awesome, the venue is great, the volunteers were great. Had a great time.
