I am not very enthused about the idea of an un-timed "fun run", or running in the cold, or doing a run on New Years Eve after work.  What I am curious about, is the jackets.  I have heard they are super nice and worth the price of the race.  Anyone have any experience with the races or the jackets?

Here is a link to the race

Looking like a 5K commitment/resolution run and nothing fancy.
Good entry fee $35 for the nice running jacket.
If I already don't own gazillion jackets, I would go for it.
The run starts at various Running Room store locations.

I have last years jacket.  Didn't run the race, my sister did, and the jacket was too large for her so she gave it to me.  I've worn it quite a bit over the past year and find it to be a decent jacket.  It's not the best piece of gear I own, but for a free race jacket I'm impressed.

I did the run and I do remember it was kind of weird to figure out my food that day, to be ready to run after work.  It was also far from a PR because the path was totally snow covered and just not fast that day.   I did it in 2007, so I assume the jackets have changed since then. I found it to be too windbreakery for my taste - it didn't breathe.  I eventually gave it away.

I looked at the link, they look like much nicer jackets in the picture.

I've done 4-5 of these.  Free jackets the last few years, free hat one year.  In Rochester, our run is on New Years Day like 10ish?, not real early.  They do an unofficial timing, meaning they have a running time at the finish but they don't post results or anything.  Last year's jacket was heavier, more of a fleece and suitable for real cold weather running.  Other years the jackets were more nylon/windbreaker types.  I'll probably do it again this year.

I have thought of that as well.  A post-work race makes it tough enough, it being on a holiday makes figuring out a diet even tougher.  Especially considering I'm sure the entire office will want to go someplace ridiculous for lunch to celebrate New Year's.  But if its a fun run, if I throw down a horrible run... it never happened right?  haha.

A guy at work is trying to get into shape (doc told him it is necessary) but is struggling to find the motivation.  I told him I would do this event if he would.  I still may do it even if he doesn't.  I think my official decision, "definitely maybe".
