I did this last year on the other course.  I think this sets up for an easier overall race as it is all in Medical lake, transitions are all right there.  I would not be a huge fan of the 3 running laps around the lake, but I ran that last year, and the path is a good asphalted path all the way around.  I'd only worry about congestion as it will get tight with all the athletes at different spots on the run.  Also, hope for warm weather.  Boise had snow last year in June.  It can be beautiful here in May, but it can also be pretty wet and cold.

Hopefully it is a great course, and great event.  I plan on putting it on my calendar for next year, barring any huge complaints from this years event.

Has anyone ridden on those roads out there?  I'd think it's a pretty flat course with some rollers, but I haven't trained on those particular roads, as they are a different direction than last years course.

I'm still on the fence for it. Yes the weather could suck that day or it could be a decent day.  I've been working on the wife's support for it . That's the main thing I need as it would fit into my training schedule pretty well.

Bike course will be challenging with a lot of riding into the prevailing winds and open country. Also, has constant rolling hills during most of the bike route.

The run course around the lake portion isn't bad, (some rolling hills on the west side of lake) but every lap you have to climb a sustained (approx.1/3 mile) fairly steep hill up to the turnaround at Eastern State Hospital. It will take the snap out of the legs for sure.

I don't see this course as being a fast course at all. I could be wrong, but I don't think so...

Argg I am on the fence about this race still. My scheduled training day 5:15 ride, 45 run and 30 swim. So if i did this i would be riding less and running longer for sure. But i get some race experience if i do this so.... who knows

One year is a heck of a turnaround from the couch.  Just do it.  You can do your 5 hr ride the following weekend.

With just a little over a month to go, has anyone had any correspondence from race directors or anything?

There is already a Grand Columbian sized hole in my finances! At least this one is half the distance at less than half the price.

...and I'm registered! Ramen with a side of ramen for the foreseeable future.

With only 2 weeks until race day has anyone swam in the lake yet?  How about any correspondence of any type?

From their FB page: https://www.facebook.com/TroikaTriathlon?fref=ts

"Water temperature was 54 as of 4/30/13. Optimistic with the upcoming weather that we will be at 60 by race morning."

The big day is almost here! Looking forward to it.

Afterward, I'll definitely be up for a beer. If anyone knows a good spot in Moses Lake or Cheney, let me know.

Thanks, you too! I am totally gassed, I have nothing in the tank. Did you see our time yet? They have been up for a bit with splits.

I went through it a bit on Sunday. Saturday, I got home, poured a beer, made a couple sandwiches and finished about half of each before sleeping the next 4 hours.

I guess next up for you is IM CDA? I'll be doing the all downhill Tunnel marathon in July.

I stopped at local small bar that has great food and had a steak and bake plus a mocha porter before I did anything else, no cleanup or anything. Followed by a quick stop at the Rocket Bakery for some tasty treats. Got all my stuff put away, got myself cleaned up, and couldn't sleep! I was tired but ended up being up until 11ish then I woke up just a bit before 5 and couldn't sleep anymore.

Yes it is, I am excited and feeling pretty good about it. Hadn't heard of that marathon before, just looked it up, looks interesting. How do you think you will do?

Nice race btw!

Haha. I left all my gear in the car till the evening.
I finally got back out there to bring everything in and clean up the bike and wetsuit.

I have been training for a 6:30 pace, but my coach has me on bike/swim focused plan since running was my strength. This next month will be more running, so I'll see if 6:30 is doable. If not, 6:45 would still get me well under my BQ -5minutes, and a 6:40 would be -10. (Obviously, my big goal is to run Boston next April, so a 3:04:59 would be a PR and good enough!)

I need to get out there to do a 20mile run, to see what the gradual descent does for my pace. There simply aren't any long and smooth descents nearby to try out.

A bunch of people from my running (drinking) club will be out there, so it'll be a blast. For several, it'll be their first marathon. Everyone was poised to register once it opened...and it sold out within 4 hours.
