Just heard they've moved the Troika 1/2 Iron distance race from August to Saturday May 18th for 2013.

It will no longer start in Medical Lake and end in Spokane. It will start and finish in Medical Lake.

Good early season race to prime the pump for 2013......

Water temps will be high 50's roughly...

I think I might do this, it lines up distance wise with my scheduled training for that weekend.  Just don't know the effects of doing a HIM 6 weeks out from an IM?

I assume your doing IMCDA? I know a lot of Spokane/N. Idaho folks that will be doing this race and racing IMCDA. It definitely lines up nicely with most training plans. Just use it as a training day and ease off the gas pedal a bit. Less likely to end up injured or delay recovery time.

Good luck!

SSHHHHH!! I'm not racing IMCDA....I'm just encouraging all that are, to slow down! hahaha

Kidding aside, if I was doing and IM 6 weeks later I definitely would not be pedal to the metal.

That's correct. Good to know if fits in well. I definitely plan on taking it easy, hopefully I can stick to that on race day! Thanks.Oh yeah, is the new route available to view yet?

They have not updated the Troika web site yet. I believe registration begins on about November 18th....give or take. I'm hoping they have the website updated with course changes by then.

I did troika last year for my first tri.  What an outstanding event.  The bike course was awesome with the negative gain overall in elevation going down hill as you came closer to town.  Made for a very fast time.  the run was a great, flat out and back on the same flat course for windermere.  August temps were hot, but that's what training in the heat is for.

But there are some great long roads out there that really are great to train on and have outstanding views with little to no traffic.  Not only will this change the course, It will change the temps as well.  (August 90's to May 50's- 60's) I've ran the past 3 windermere's on this same weekend, and it's fortunately been one of the hottest weekends of the spring, so hopefully weather will be outstanding.  Usually has a high in the mid to high 60's for that weekend, which feels like 90's at that time of the year.

Do to it falling on the same weekend as Windermere, I cannot do Troika this year.   I have to look to Lake Stevens or elsewhere for my HIM distance event.  I've heard good things about Vineman as well.

Chelanman is later on in the summer. I was trying to pick between these two as a buildup for Grand Columbian. I think the early Troika is now at a fine spot to do all three. Although, Windermere was a great race as well. My only downside of Windermere was getting passed by all the marathon relayers. I had no idea where I stood in the pack!

That's the story at all marathon's that I've done.  Good times when you get passed on mile 22 (just when the mind really starts playing with you)  I always try to look at the color of the # and keep it all in perspective.

I'm in for Windermere again this year, and am doing the Grand Columbian HIM for the first time in Sept.  Maybe I'll see you there.

A guy from our running club was doing the relay with his daughter. I saw him pass me twice, then once again as he was waiting near the finish! That messed with my mind a bit.

I really like races where there is a HM finishing at the same spot. It feels like I'm flying, picking off runners going at half my pace...as long as it is not too crowded. My wife says I am an aide station prima donna. Sometimes I want one gatorade and one water...nothing wrong with that!

I'm thinking about this race, but curious to how busy the roads are during the race, can someone give me a clue?  Are the roads as busy as say Chelanman or Lake Stevens?  Less/More?

Thanks

Weird....... I'll do some checking on this. Scott Ward, the race director is the one who sent out an email a while back indicating there would be a date change to May........

I'll look forward to the race report from you guys doing this race.  I did it last year, and will probably plan on it in 2014 for lead up to IM.  I'm interested in how the new bike course will ride and how the water feels in medical lk. in may.

I thought at one point I saw a map of the new course but now I can't find it on the site.  I'm really thinking about doing Troika as a primer for CDA.  It would fit well with my training although at this time while typing this up I don't even know what I have planned for that weekend.  Too lazy to look it up.

I'm thinking though that the bike course will be pretty flat which = fast bike times. The run course has to be flat as well so that will help. Along with the lake swim at I would say 60 degree temps, could be a pretty good race with fast times.

What do others things?

I signed up yesterday, I think when I did, it popped up that I was the 17th to register.  It fits well with my training plan, I think it will be a good booster for me going into IMCDA in general as well.

I haven't seen any maps but, I emailed the contact and they got back to me pretty quick that they hoped to have the course updates up by early in the next week, that was back on January 4th though.
