A few of us are planning an OWS for 8 a.m. July 1 at Mary Alice Park in Cumming, Ga. (northeast of Atlanta): http://www.google.com/maps?hl=en&lr=&rls=GGLR,GGLR:2006-18,GGLR:en&q=mary+alice+park&near=Cumming,+GA&radius=0.0&latlng=34207222,-84140278,5009823999928139523&sa=X&oi=local&ct=result&cd=1. We don't know how long we're going, yet, but the course is marketed. Whoever wants to show up is welcome to come on over!

We're also planning to bike afterwards. I don't know Atlanta, so hblackmon is handling the details on that, or else we'll just go play in traffic.

I will try to get to the swim. I ride the bike at the Chattahoohe River park. I park off Riverside Rd under the bridge (GA 400). Martin's Rd is 2 miles to stop sign making 4 miles RT. It's nice & it follows the river so you have a great breeze. The best part is the bike lane in both directions.

from the bridge going back towards Roswell Rd, the path is 1 mile (rt.2 miles). you can go under Roswell Rd or over it. I prefer to go under (I feel safer). Once you are on Azela Rd it's 1.5 miles to Wileo, making it 3 round trip.

I calculated that 2 loops you can get 18 miles in easy. As a beginner cyclest, there are some challenages. Seems to be very popular for training. The ride is nice too, less the stinky areas...heheheh

After further discussion, we decided to scrap the bike ride and go get breakfast after the swim. Although I'm planning on going over to Silver Comet if I'm not too stuffed tired and check it out, provided I can find it. This is going to be fun!

That would be awesome, Jim! No laughing at our strokes, though .

No idea where we're eating breakfast yet, although I think Waffle House grease after a swim would rock! However, other options will be considered, especially if people are on strict diets, etc. If anybody has a favorite, let me know.

Edit: Actually, Heather (hblackmon) doesn't like Waffle House, so she's looking for other restaurants, which is probably better for all of us anyway.

YEAH! I'm excited to meet some others this Saturday. I haven't met any other triathletes except for a few people I've chatted with at the beginning of races. I can't say how long I'll swim, I'm SOOOOOOOOO bored of swim workouts lately! Maybe an OWS will renew my interest.

Ok, I found a sitter, woohoo... I will be joining as well. I have much work to do on the OWS & calming fears. It's wierd how i'm comfortable with 800 meters in a pool but that 100 yard in the Open
I actually had a small anxiety attack. This can't happen in my tri.... so i'm coming to conquer this.

I'm excited to meet you guys. I was told by a friend who swim's this a lot the parking maybe $3 instead of $1.

YAY! It will be so awesome to meet y'all! I think we'll have all levels there, so no worries. This is as much about getting an OWS in as it is about helping each other.

Thanks for the tip, Tonya. I'll be bringing $3.

I'm excited!  Wow, the group has grown since I last checked this forum.  I might also bring a friend or two.  FYI- try to wear a brightly-colored swim cap so that we can spot each other in the water.  Not that there would be any trouble.... just in case...

I also remember paying $3 for parking.  Should we decide on a meeting place and time?  Once you go inside the park, there will be two parking lots on your right.  I've always met in the second parking lot.  It's right by the beach.

So are we on for a bike ride after breakfast?

Is the time still set for 8 am? If it is I don't know that I can make it all the way over there that early.
Steph, how are going to get there from Athens? There's no easy way to get to Cumming from our side of town.

Mindy, I PMed you directions, although it might be faster to go through Winder and up that way. Janelle, come on up! You know you want to...

Okay, here's the plan for now: OWS at 8 a.m. at Mary Alice Park. Bring $3 for parking. We'll meet in the second parking lot by the beach (thanks, Kyung!). Also, the bright colored swim cap thing sounds like a good idea. I'll bring extras just in case, although I really love my black swim cap .

Breakfast after swim at IHOP, which according to Heather is about 2.5 miles away from the park. For those interested, we'll be heading to Silver Comet after breakfast for a 1.5 hour ride and stopping at all3sports (I think) on the way.

If anybody wants my cell #, PM me, but if you ask for directions, I'll be telling you to google it.

We are going to stop at All3Sports on the way to SCT - it's only a short detour (probably 2-4 minutes extra).

One final thing to mention is that I'm going to do a 20 minute transition run after the bike - which everyone is welcome to join (or not) if you'd like. I'm glad so many are planning on coming - it should be fun!!
