Subject: Century or Metric Century 2 weeks before HIM?

I am already signed up for NOLA 70.3 which is April 21, 2013, but there is a local Tour de Cure ride on the 7th.  Last year this was my first Century and it's for a good cause so I want to participate again but I'm concerned about the timing of it with regards to my A race which is the HIM.  Any thoughts, insight, previous experience you can share?

Thanks,

Chris

If you just go ride it, hit all the food/water stops, and have fun it'll be a good long day of training that would fit in fine 2 weeks before your race.  If you fall into the packs that are gunning it, not so much.

Alot will depend on how your training goes leading up to the HIM....but if all goes well, the century should be a good time and a piece of cake.

Go for it, should be fun. Go fast, go slow-whatever you like, just watch out for some stupid crash

That's what scares me the most.

I'd suggest the Metric Century, since it's more in-line with HIM training long ride.

Just be alert, spend some time this winter on bike handling and pack riding-in all likelihood it will be fine

I think you'd be fine as long as you don't push too hard in the century, such as if your HIM race pace is 20 mph, take the century at 19 mph.  2 weeks is enough to recover and still taper.

No problem at all, but I would do the metric.  In fact I did just that last month, even the same event!  Houston Tour de Cure on the weekend before my A race HIM in Kerrville.  Nailed my HIM PR and beat my goal time by 10 minutes.

TdC's are awsome.  Great cause for something near and dear to me.  Thanks for supporting it.

If you're well-trained for the HIM bike leg, and if you don't kill yourself on the ride, then doing the century would be fine. A good over-distance training ride.

If you find yourself worrying about completing the HIM bike leg, then do the metric instead.
