I am so pissed about not getting into IMF. I had 2 computers going from 1200 on an still could not get in. I guess they knew I am friggin slow
Anyway, I wanted to do an IM-I have done B2B full x 2.75 and want an IM-preferably IMF. Tell me the most poor swimmer friendly race towards the east coast. I cannot afford to fly all over. I also am not a fast cyclist. Actually I suck at all three but put in at least minimal work. Seems like I am not fast enough on the darn computer either!
I need a wetsuit legal race-any thought?

IM Moo and IM LP will both take longer to complete.  The bike courses are significantly harder plus it will most likely be warmer.

IM Moo and IM LP are more expensive than IM FL.  IM Moo is probably slightly more while IM LP is significantly more due to lodging costs.

All three have similar swims, and they have similar times for the swim.  IMLP isn't always wetsuit legal now that the wetsuit cutoff temp is lower.

IM Moo and IM LP have a better atmosphere.  IM FL is great, but those two are known for the vibe and crowds.

You could also consider IM Mount Treblant.

I hope this gets you started.

Another thought, IM Louisville is not wetsuit legal, but I believe it's somewhat current-assisted.  And not that bad a drive from the east coast.

I could be wrong, but Moo and Placid usually sell out and would probably be already sold out for next year.  Louisville stays open a long time.

I did IMKY and it is a good race course wise, don't count on a current to help with swim, it's not like B2B. You may get a little help, but no wetsuits, if you like space when you swim, you will have it. IMLP swim was brutal this year, I got the crap kicked out of me and most same. IMKY has a much easier bike than LP or MOO, but you most likely will have to deal with 90 degree temps. No race is perfect, they all have something to get you, just pick one and go for it!

Most women I know 45+ are hour slower on the bike at Lake Placid than IMFL. Most women are more than an hour faster at IMFL than IMLP more like 1.5 hours.

IMLP being small lake, has a significant draft effect.

IMLP is very expensive for housing.

Isn't LP and WI full for 2013?

Fastest IM distance race I've done on the bike is ChesepeakeMan.

I've been to IMFL 5x and raced 2x, water conditions can very a lot. There is a current ever year. Some years have more waves than others.  I'm a slow swimmer and if waves are bad, I doubt I may make the swim cut off.

IMAZ is an option and you have opportunity to sign up in 2 weeks. Wetsuit legal but water can be cold. Cheap to fly there via Southwest and relatively inexpensive housing can be found.

What about a foundation spot.  I bet florida with a foundation spot is around the cost of IMLP without due to lodging costs.

Or Cozumel?

Lodging at IMMT should be decently priced.

I did IMLP this year and even the swim felt uphill to me.

It's not likely to be wetsuit legal and would require flying. I'm surprised you didn't 2nd the Louisville mention, as that might fit in ok here. Likely non-wetsuit, but it's mostly current assisted. Bike is easier than Moo or LP. Run is flat, but likely to be hotter than either. So take your pick there.

right, not wetsuit legal but the bouancy of the salt water would help float similar to a wetsuit.  wearing a wetsuit at florida was rediculous it was so bouyant.  Also, the bike is very flat which the OP mentioned was one thing they were looking for.

Thanks all! I was wanting to drive from NC if at all possible. I certainly understand IM for 2013 is out for now but trying to keep hope alive. I will probably do B2B again and get my time down significantly and then try for something in 2014. I hesitate any non wetsuit swim as that is where I truely suck. i think I can get my time down on the bike/run over this next year but it iwll still be a challenge.
Maybe I should be really happy with B2B right in my back yard as it is cheap, close and fun. I am doing Raleigh 70.3 so maybe that will be my IM taste.
Just so pissed about IMF-I was really ready this time

Louisville is a great race, but the OP specifically mentioned wetsuit legal.
