Subject: Converting a Cervelo S5 to a P5?

I have a 2012 Cervelo S5 and I'd like to keep my road bike, I just bought it and I love it. However, I would also like a Tri bike! This got me thinking, I have clip on aero bars, but I just don't like my road bike with attachment aero bars. Since this bike has mostly the same parts, but a slightly different geometry, is it possible to convert my S5 to a P5? What about cabling etc... Would it then be tough to convert back?

Thanks,

Frank.

I was actually thinking of the P3, not the P5. That said, the P2, or P3 have a very similar geomotry to the S5, except (by just observation and owning a S5),

That the S5 top tub is angled down towards the seat tube.

That the Seat post is angled back, and that Tri seats tend to be straight up and down.

That the head tube is shorter on the P-Series that that of the S5. This is the most concerning because i'm not sure how much it will affect the angle of the aero-bars.

Any thoughts? I'm just searching for a way to save some money.

You have a very good bike already in the S5, so just use it for what's designed to do. Don't try to make it something it's not. If you want to, add a pair of shortie clip-on aero bars, something like Vision Tech Mini TT's that allows you to maintain your position on the bike, yet be efficient in aero

For what it's worth, I did the same thing that audiojan mentioned and am pretty please with the result.

I have a Scott Foil 20 but really wanted to allow for some aero positioning so I slapped a pair of Vision Mini TT bars on and am good to go.  I also added a Cobb V-Max seat around the same time so I have been experimenting with the seat position since both it and the shortie bars are new.  Not quite dialed in yet but getting there.

Don't change the seat position due to the aero bars! The seat position is the first parameter you fix in a bike fit and then everything gets adjusted from that reference point. You should adjust the aero bars to you, not you to the aero bars...

Thanks audiojan, good point.

Just meant I was trying to dial in the new Cobb seat for overall bike fit.  I've had it all the way back, all the way forward, nose level, nose down and now nose slightly up.  I'm almost there for my regular road bike feel.  I'll leave the shorties as they are and work around the road bike fit.

Sorry to hijack the thread.  Just wanted to say I was in the same predicament and I do like the feel when adding the Mini TT's.

TomA over on ST converts his S5 from road to TT fairly often. You could search up his thread.

I agree with Jan for the most part, I'd leave mine a Road bike with some shorties... but it would probably work better on an S5 than it does on most road bikes.
