Subject: Please Recommend 70.3 Race

Starting to explore 70.3 races for 2013 (I'm open to Ironman brand or non-Ironman brand events).

My ideal course would be a lake swim, light to rolling hills on the bike, and a flat run course in the U.S. I'm from Atlanta, but would prefer to race outside of the southeast region.

Thank you for feedback on your favorite 70.3 experience!

I enjoy Boise.  Great town, very well supported by the community.  Run it two flat loops.  Bike has some rollers, but no long sustained climbs.  Swim is a lake swim, but can be cold.   For me, its the city that really makes the race.  Great place to visit.

Eagleman in Cambridge Maryland is always a good race and was my first 70.3. Challenging and the flat course can be deceiving and it's usually pretty hot. Rev3 events are nice to look into as well. Good luck!

I'm doing HIM New Orleans. Its a relatively flat course though. I haven't seen any elevation profiles but its nothing big.

Plus. Its New Orleans

Augusta 70.3. it was my first Mdot race and 2nd HIM this year.  I loved it!  The swim was fast in the river, the bike amazing with light rollers, nothing big and crowd support everywhere! The run was flat and did I mention crowd support everywhere!  I loved it!

I am considering going back to it again next year even though there is now a HIM 10 miles from my house in NC on the same weekend.

Patriot is in MA in June and Pumpkin is in ME in September. Both fit all your criteria and are really well run races with great crowd support, swag and after race food and cheap lodging.

I have read good things about Patriot's Half and have had that on the radar as well as Beach to Battleship.  Though B2B is not a lake swim you get the benefit of tidal current.

Rev3 does a great 70.3. Try Knoxville. Very challenging, early season 70.3.

Soma Triathlon in AZ in October.  Late year race and not too big but great support and run by a fantastic organization.  Lake swim, Urban bike, and 2 loop run around the lake to finish.  Just a suggestion, but its a great race with great support and almost assured of great weather.

Musselman in Geneva, NY in July is a great weekend for a triathlon getaway. Micro race on Friday night with a $100 first prize in 2 different divisions. (I happen to be the defending champion in the tricycle division!) There is a sprint race on Saturday and a 1/2 IM on Sunday.

Geneva residents are really into the race and many of them have sprinklers and showers set up in their front yards during the run. It's a lake swim that ends up in a canal that the spectators can see very well  and more importantly you can hear the spectators. Biking through beautiful upstate NY and guaranteed to pass some Mennonites in horse and buggies waving to you as you ride by.

There is an Athlete Villiage at the local college that is very reasonable as well as camping nearby that is even more reasonable.

Great race!!!

Just a word of caution traveling from another region to race in Colorado - make sure you know how the altitude will affect you. I know for me, just walking around at the higher elevation sends me short of breath. I did a sprint aquathon in Aurora once and it was painfully noticeable. Just a heads up

Atlanta elevation: 738-1,050 ft
Boulder elevation: 5,430 ft
