Ok, so this is just an idea I kinda came up with and figured I would throw it out there. A UK motorcycle message board that I frequent is currently transporting a sombrero around the UK by motorcycle with each person traveling less than 40 miles. I think this is pretty cool and a good way to meet other people in somewhat close proximity to you. So I thought what if triathletes transporting something by our methods, just to see how far it would get. I know that people here go out for 30, 40, 50 or more mile bike rides which can reach out to several neighboring towns. They could hand off whatever it is to the next person, and when they go out for a ride get the item a little bit further.

Anyone interested in this? I'm in Mississippi and could start the journey from here going any direction. We would need something small, that would fit in a bike bag or jersey pocket. Each person could post here and arrange a time to meet.

Just a thought. Not sure if we have enough people in close enough proximity to really make this work. Perhaps if we can't do it by bike, then it could make it's way across the country from person to person as they travel for different races. Obviously things will be slower during the winter.

It could be a super hero figure and everyone can take pictures of he/she posing in different interesting locations in cities all around the country as he travels.

Maybe we could get a BT themed item.  Probably something like a watch or arm band that can be strapped on.

We could carry it by Bike for the long stretches, but a few trail runs to cross interesting ravines/hills etc could be done, and a few OWS to cross some bodies of water.

For example 2 triathletes meeting on an island in the middle of a body of water.

This would need a photo heavy thread to go along with it.

This is a cool idea! I like it.

Maybe use a book like this in a ziplock baggie? (the book is pretty small, and, another benefit, it can be shared--temporarily--with any kids in the big chain of athletes)

LOL!!!  I loved that episode!!

It's one of the few shows that I miss with not living in London anymore.

As for the traveling thingamabob - I like it!  Definitely photo thread worthy.

Yay! I'm so happy to see some interest. The superhero idea is cute, maybe we could come up with a super triathlete or something. I also like the BT theme, since this would be the basis for everything. We just have to agree on something and I'll go get it. It would be required that everyone who makes a handoff post a photo of themselves with the item and the person they are handing it off to. Any of the 3 sports are fine, if you want to swim a river between two states then go for it.

Any more suggestions on what we can use?

How about a BT water bottle with "The Travels of Tiffanator" written on it?  Easy to transport and can serve as a safety float on the swim portion!

Almost all of the seasons are on Netflix streaming...just sayin'

As for the idea - sounds fabulous. I'd love to help - with the understanding that I don't want to be swimming this time of year in Maine ;-)

I really like the water bottle idea. What if I get a BT water bottle and put a little bit of paper in it so each person can put their name and location on it so everyone can see how far it's made it. Then put a note in there with a return address to me so that if it is lost it can find it's way back home. Ha.

So I guess what we need to do now is get a list of people interested and their location so maybe we can get this started. One of the mods may want to move this into the COJ, that's where I originally intended to start the thread, but I made a brain hiccup and started it here.

I'm in Hattiesburg, MS.

I'm all over Maine (could even get it up to Canada in a pinch) or down to New Hampshire/Mass. I like the water bottle idea.

I would be game.  I am in remote southeastern Montana.  We could each post this idea in our individual state forums and see if we could organize participants at least across our own state.

I'm in if it gets near Philly.  Could cover parts of South Jersey also.

What would be really cool would be to link together the GPS plots and put it on Google Earth.

I exported all my activities from the last couple years into GE, it looks like a plate of spaghetti was dumped on the western suburbs of Philly.

I'm in.  I live in Southern California.  I'm also going to New Zealand in April and Hawaii in August.  I will swim while I'm both those places, but sorry I won't swim it accross if that's the requirement before hand off.  At home, I could do any of the three sports through the winter months and I know there are other BT'ers around here.

I did something simliar with my girls when they were children, we have a teddy bear that's been all around the states, has a great scrap book and souviners that came back with it.  (came back with a Hawaiian Lei, hand swean vest, sporting sun glasses and a couple of pins. Please do include some type of log..so you can get names, user names, dates and location.
