I'm jealous of you people that have time to read!

x3 (I think) for Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series.

My next books will be Harry Potter.

I was permanently scarred by the movie, I'd hate to know what's in the book.  lol

I'm so glad that you started this thread because it has pointed out so many different kinds of books to me.  Have fun on the cruise!

Based on these suggestions, I've since read Ender's Game, 11/22/63, Girl with the Dragon Tatoo, Orange is the New Black.  Just started Sex on the Moon and I think I'll really like it.  I'm gonna have to get Passages since you have all been talking about it.  11/22/63 is fabulous and it makes me remember what a great writer King is.  I've stayed away from most of his books because I can't do horror but I'm going to have to grab all of his non-horror books.

There's gonna be a movie of Ender's Game in November.  But they used teens instead of little kids like the book.

It was required reading in the Marine Corps because it's all about "thinking outside the box" and "when confronted with an impossible situation, change the rules of the game."

I didn't see where you mention it but I hope you have an eReader and aren't toting that 10-pound hard copy of 11/22/63 around the ship. BTW that was the last "real" book I bought/read. Have a collection of King 1st editions reaching back to The Stand.

Bon Voyage!

Thanks for the concern John!  Have both the iPad with a Kindle app and the Kindle.  No 25 pound books for me!

For those of you who recommended The Maze Runner, does the second book get better? The first did nothing for me really. I almost bailed a couple times actually. I have been very happy with several of the other reads so far though. This is a great thread.

How can anyone suggest reading 50 shades of gray while your on a cruise with your mother?? Just sayin....

Over New Year's, my mother-in-law asked me at a crowded restaurant whether I'd read 50 Shades and what I thought of the books. Holey crap!

And I can't speak highly enough of the Enders Game books (see the log-in name).

But - hoping I can add new ones to the list (I may have missed some as I scrolled through the list) -

Rosamund Lipton - "Sister" is good, as is Abraham Verghese - "Cutting for Stone."

Oh, and for people who liked the Stieg Larsson trilogy, another Scandanavian mystery writer:

Jussi Adler-Olsen - good dark mystery stories (Keeper of Lost Causes, The Absent One have been translated so far, they're part of a series)
