Pre-race routine:

Stayed all night with Chris (Cbost), we went out the night before to this really good greek resturant nd had some great food. Went to bed by 10:30. Woke up at 4am got ready and drobve the hour to the race site, we still had not picked up our packets; so we had to do that first thing. Picked up race stuff then went to transition and got everything all set up.
Event warmup:

Ran a mile for a warm up, went to the bathroom a few times. Swam 100M in the pool and I was ready.
Swim
  • 07m 20s
  • 4 meters
  • 3h 29m 31s / 100 meters
Comments:

I really hate the swim part of tri's because I think I suck at them. We were all standing around and heard thunder and Team Magic aounced that it was going to be a 15 minute delay. I thought YEA this is going to turn into a duathlon (although I hate the duathlon premise). Well it didnt....
I was 29th on my bib number. Entered the water, swam good the first 100, and then settled into my stroke... I did get passed 5 times maybe on the swim and did pass 1 person I know. Got out of the water running and ran to T1. Time to beat from last year 7:42 beat it....
What would you do differently?:

Just get faster I guess... I was happy with the swim, I am just slow.....
Transition 1
  • 40m 87s
Comments:

UHHHH not going to complain about 40 seconds!!!! Yes! I was first in my AG for T1... That is my first in anything in my AG...

Time to beat from last year 2:13 damn was I that slow before????
What would you do differently?:

Nada
Bike
  • 42m 25s
  • 15.25 miles
  • 21.57 mile/hr
Comments:

See comments above...
What would you do differently?:

ride harder, ride lots... I am getting there.... All the hard work is paying off.
Transition 2
  • 58m 92s
Comments:

I thought this would have been my faster T time but it wasnt. Somebody racked their bike in my space and I had a little trouble getting my shoes on. Not going to complain... it was still a good T2
Time to beat 1:38
What would you do differently?:

Be a little faster, would have been happy with a 53... a few little hiccups nothing big.
Run
  • 25m 9s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

Run went well, was suprised because I thought I went out slow... When I hit my 1 mile lap button and looked down to see I was just now at 1 hour on the race I got stoked...
Tried to start reeling in the guy in front of me.
During mile 2 I decided to keep my pace because I didnt know what was ahead in mile 3 because we had not drove the course. I did get past by the 1st and 2nd place women here, they were running side by side and I yelled for them to go... Mile 2 was a little hilly.
Mile 3 was great, hit the water station, thru water on my head and beared down for the finish. Me and some guy sprinted it out in my age group and I beat him at the line.
Time to beat 27:49
What would you do differently?:

Maybe be faster but I am getting there... I cant complain, run was great... I WILL get faster I know...
Post race
Warm down:

none, stood around and waited on Chris, Renee, LeAnn and a few others to finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing other than just getting better at this sport

Event comments:

Go team Magic, they rock!

Course: Course had some rolling hills and one or two really nice hills. We got to ride on the bypass parkway which was really cool. My whole plan on thi ride was to go out hard and not look back. I have never had that experience where I had nothng left for the run and my plan was to use this race to experiment a little. I really dont remember much about the ride except I kept my head looking foward and I beared down and rode hard. I passed a lot of those fast swimmers I wished I was... Suckers. and I only got passed 3 times on the bike. Me and this one guy went back and forth a lot. Drank Heed/water mix. .75% of a bottle so I drank enough. Only had to get out of big chain ring one time. Over all I am super happy with my ride! I feel like I can go harder though... Time to beat 55:12

Congrats, Pumpkin.  Sounds like the race you were meant to have. AWESOME job on the bike. You'll get there on the swim - you've got the will, you just need the laps and to get the 'feel' right.

Holy smokes Chris- awesome, awesome run!  You are getting sooo fast!  If they gave out awards for fastest transitions, you would have picked up some hardware!  Nice work!
