Bicyclist hit, killed in Canandaigua

(June 25, 2006 ) — CANANDAIGUA, NEW YORK — A bicyclist was killed after being struck by an SUV, after the driver was distracted by falling papers, according to the Ontario County Sheriff's Office.
Ralph E. Miller Jr., 47, was driving east on Grimble Road in Canandaigua at 3:14 p.m. Saturday, when his 1997 Ford Explorer stuck Gerald S. Silkiewicz, 54, of 3428 Hopkins Road.
Silkiewicz was pronounced dead at the scene.
Miller, of 6096 State Route 64 told deputies some papers fell on the floor of his vehicle, distracting him, and when he looked back up to the roadway Silkiewicz was directly in front of him.
The collision happened about a half-mile from Hopkins Road.
The accident was is under investigation.
