Me and MaryLotus went to Key West today (12-1-12) and had a great time triing in paradise.

She did her very first sprint tri and took 5th place in her AG

I had my best Key West tri and took 5th in my AG also.

Multirace AGAIN did a great job with timing and race results.  Thanks Multirace

Hope others had as good a time in paradise today.

Yep, I enjoyed it also. A little faster than last year, but it was not as windy this year and with a different swim course. Well done again this year.

Good job TRIKW!

Looking forward to next year!

I went for my second time and, indeed, the swim was much better.  The swim course direction was easier and using different colors for the sprint and olympic was a welcome change from the previous year.

I was bummed to miss this race in 2012. I had a great time in 2011 racing along side (or I should say 'near') Macca. Had a pretty solid run at TRIKW Oly last year, and always think about that run split.

Nice. I saw him last year as I was about 1/4 mile out of T2 and he was finishing. He was running faster at the end of a 10K than I can run flat out. Anything near that pace is impressive.

I only raced KW this year but had a blast.  I particularly loved the Saturday race which allowed the group of us to actually enjoy the weekend.  I need to make room on my 2013 calendar for this one again!

Check out my race report (I did the oly distance): http://triswimrob.wordpress.com/races/2012-2/2013-key-west-triathlon/

The weather this year, in particular the wind, was much better than last year. I did the sprint last year and this year the OLY. I wish I could say it was a good day for me, but it wasn't. Entirely my bad though. I had a new long sleeve wet suit and although I had tried it out in the pool and all seemed fine, I got in the water and the first 1/4 mile against the tide was rough for me. I don't quit, but I almost did because I just couldn't get my breath and started hyperventilating. Well I did get through the swim, but I had expended so much energy, that by the time I got through the bike, which went better than I thought it would, I had nothing left for the run and ran/walked it in. I wasn't last, but I was pretty darn close. So, lesson learned, not only with training more in the open water (live in KW so no real excuse except for time and not wanting to swim alone in the ocean) and also work on my nutrition so I don't bonk.

All that said, the event was run pretty well and the weather was great. I am sure I will be back next year, God willing, and hopefully better prepared.
