Subject: Homemade front wheel riser??

Anybody ?? Can't I make my own with a wooden block or something? I just want to have both wheels even right, as Rear wheel becomes slightly elevated in my crappy old trainer? Is this to ease pressure on the frame? Also should I buy a cheaper axle instead of using the one presently on my bike??

Anybody help the clueless here??!!

I used to use a book, now I use an upside down dog dish.  Pretty much anything with enough height will work

I got both on Amazon, the riser for like $12 and the skewer for $9. I've know that after about 30 minutes on the trainer you might slide off a phone book from the vibrations. Just saying it might be worth it to get the right tool for the job and they are pretty reasonably priced.

Hope that helps!

After sliding off a phone book a couple of times I broke down and bought a riser for like $20.  Scour the internet, you'll find a deal.

For the first month or so I had a 2x4 with some 1/2 inch pieces of wood along the side. It worked alright but, the moment I decided to buy the cycleops riser block I could tell I had been missing out. Don't be cheap. Just go out and spend the 15 bucks on the block.

I use a block of wood to keep my front wheel level with the back. If I didn't I'd be sliding forward all the time and it would throw my position out of wack. The trainer axle ( aka trainer skewer) can be purchased at any bike store or the internet. It's a good idea to get one to cut back on the wear and tear that the trainer will cause.

An old running shoe works perfectly. Turn the toe towards the bike, sit the wheel on the laces, and get spinning!

I just use a scrap of 2x4.  Never had an issue with falling off it.  Not exactly sure how you would do that.

I made a riser out of 2x4's and an old carpet scrap for some padding works great.

During some hard intervals when the sweat is in my eyes and I am on the edge I have been known to really crank the bars resulting in my front wheel slipping off my homemade riser. To the OP I would buy the riser. For a small price it's worth it for the less hassle. Also they generally have different height positions which I like for the climbing simulation.

Didn't read the responses... go to Home Depot and get a 2x4 block. Done. We have that under both our bikes on trainers.

I've used a piece of 2x4 before and it works well. I put two pieces of cardboard under it so that it acts like a bushing and lets you move the bars around easier.
