Alright, so I'm a F.I.B. in the Wi thread.  I know the race is still almost two months away but my wife and I are looking at hotels to stay at for this race.  So I want to get this thread started to ask a few questions:

1.  Recommendations on hotels from people who have done it?

2.  Is someone with some experience going to organize a get together?  Whether it is for a carb-loading dinner, a bike course drive or just a simple meet and say hi I'd really like to meet everyone who's going to be there.

3.  If anyone from IL is NOT going to stay over but would like me to check in their bike for them I will, if they even allow that kind of thing.

I'm from Kenosha, so I won't be staying in a hotel. I'll be staying at home! (By the way, as long as you're a triathlete, I'm OK with you being in a WI thread...just don't run me off the road! )

Here's the link for all the hotels that the race recommends. The Raddison is the closest, but you'll be paying a lot more to stay there. I'd recommend anything listed on I-94 and Hwy. 50. There are a ton of hotels out there, and they're all closer to the course than my house. From those hotels, you'd just take I-94 south to the next exit (165), go east for 2 miles, and you're there!

http://www.pleasantprairietriathlon.com/travel/hotelsandlodging.htm...

I've never stayed in any of these hotels, so I don't know anything about quality here. I'd book your hotel as soon as you can. When they have events in Kenosha, I've heard that those things book up quickly!

I am up for anything and would also like to meet with the BT people. I will be up there on Saturday with my Wife (and possibly 2/3 of the kids - little one will be w/ Gramma). We would all be up for the dinner, if that would be OK? Or we can just do the meet/greet if there are too many people, etc.

I think my wife would like to meet everyone, since I throw around sign-in names all the time.

I plan on driving the course some time on Saturday, too.

Let us know......

BTW, we are staying at the Best Western.

At this point, I don't think I'll be able to make it to the dinner. I'm SOOOOOO broke! (I blame triathlons...) However, I do want to meet all of you! If you see me at the race, come say hi! Oh, yeah...I look like this (see photo) and I'll be wearing the same shorts/swim top as I am in the avatar.

I can't wait to meet you all!

I just realized it's difficult to see who I am in the avatar...I'm the one with the black TYR tri shorts and the white back/red & black front TYR swim top... blue goggles...yellow cap...just like all the other yellow caps in my wave...

Yeah, I'll be wearing that... COME SAY HI!

Hey, nobody said you had to buy half the menu.  I may be just having a coke and a smile as well.  Come anyway.

Hi guys, I just found this thread...thanks hangloose! I would love to come to the dinner but we're having a birthday dinner for my grandma that night. I'm looking forward to meeting you all at the race though! Has anyone talked about a meeting place in the morning?

Eric, if nobody sets anything up before hand I'll bet we do at dinner that night or at check in the day before.  I'll call you and let you know where if you want but this time you have to have your cell phone on you!

Your absolutely right. No leaving my phone in the car this time. And if nothing else I'll keep an eye out for the red and white tank Christy will be wearing in the swim.
Looking forward to meeting you all.

Yes...because NOBODY else will be wearing that TYR suit! I mean, who wears that brand, anyway?

Were any of you out at Lake Andrea on Saturday morning? (8/12) There had to have been at least 70 people with their bikes racked in the beach area, getting one last hard "practice" in before the tri. They've got all the "Triathlon" banners on the light poles already. I'm so excited!!!

I probably won't be able to make it to dinner Saturday night. I've got a wedding (reception) to go to. Remind me to take a shawl for my shoulders. I imagine the body marking would look a bit odd with the spaghetti strap dress!

Don't worry. I won't be out late...

Well I was going to wear some TYR stuff but since you'll be wearing too I'm gonna have to think of something else. Can you imagine!? How embarassing.

perhaps you'd like to wear the spaghetti strap dress once she's done with it?

Seriously, how cool would that be to see a girl at a formal event with race numbers on?  Awesome.

Schmize was up there yesterday and said the buoys are out for the swim and it looks long.  Not long as in too long, just long as in those of us new to an OLY will think it looks like a long way to go.

They bouys are up already? Oh, wow...this is real, isn't it?

The first time I did the race, (I'm a sprint kinda girl) the swim WAS too long. I was 10 minutes slower than usual, and apparently so was everyone else. They said the bouys drifted due to a storm the night before. Let's just hope that doesn't happen this year!

Hmmm...maybe I should put a TYR logo on my dress...you know...in case anyone wants to borrow it for the race...

Maybe part of my bet with Schmize should be he has to wear your dress for the post-race hang around after I beat his azzz if I beat him.

I'll have to remember that at my next "formal" event...what a way to accessorize

So , what time is everyone arriving and checking in on Sat?  It would be nice to have a short "hookup" and photo op, since not everyone can make dinner.

I'm checked in!!! (OK, I picked up my packet and whatnot...)

I start at 7:12, I'm in wave #15, and I'm a pink cap. My race # is 983. (At least I'm pretty sure that's my number.) The bags and shirts they promised are REALLY nice. They did a great job this year.

I didn't see any bouys in the lake yet, but they're setting up porta potties as we speak.

Do any of you have your race info yet?

Nope.  I think a lot of us are arriving around noon-2 on Sat.  I'll post this here and in the Challenge thread but if anyone wants to get ahold of my my cell is 847-774-3772 and I'll be there around 1-2pm on Sat.  Checking in and and hopefully making the 3pm race talk.  Then hanging around until time for dinner.

Well, to all of you participating, welcome to my town... Actually, I don't live in Pleasant Prairie. It's technically two blocks south of where I live. Either way, the place is so much nicer when it's overrun by triathletes!

They've got the bike racks and the lifeguard platforms up!!! I'm so excited!
