Registration for Rev 3 Williamsburg has been up for a while, but as a local I have been really curious about the route. Well, the maps are up and I just checked them out. Verdict - Awesome route! The bike course is super. It takes advantage of the great James City County backroads and should be fast. To keep it interesting, it also hits a couple hills in the county on Jolly Pond and Crankston Mill. Run should be fun and fast too finishing on W&M campus. Can't say enough about the course. Patriot 1/2 is a great race, but I give Rev 3 the nod due to the course (primarily due to the bike course).

Overall I really like the course, I just hope the stretch on Jolly Pond is repaved.  Last time I rode it, there was a lot of gravel.  Also don't love two turn-around points but what can do.  Love the run course. Can't wait for this event/

I rode Jolly pond two weeks ago and no more gravel. Still a little rough coming across the Jolly pond dam, but this is only a hundred yards or so. I agree the course is fantastic. Now if I can only order a 70 degree, low humidity day for late June........, it will be a perfect race.

Thanks!  Normally do all my long rides out of Jamestown H.S. but mostly ride variations of the Patriot course.  I have a few routes that are similar to this course but it has been a few months since I rode them.

Just took a look at the maps too. T1 and T2 appear to be in different locations and 3 loops on the run if I read it correctly?

I just had my first experience with T1 & 2 in different locations with B2B, I liked it.  I just wonder if there will be bags for pre-swim items or like B2B bring only what you will wear or willing to donate.

I'm guessing the swim will be basically the same as Patriot HIM?

I had talked to the race director last year when they were thinking about starting a race here and it sounds like they were going to have the swim by the Kingsmil Marina. Not to sure if thats true still. They did change up the bike course a bit from what they sent me last fall.

I am looking forward to doing this race.  My only concern is the first downhill on Jolly pond. Kind of hard to see on the turn and the road is rough

Does the Oly course have this same route?  I am considering the Oly with another BT'er who is thinking HIM.

the swim - in the james in june - will DEFINITELY be very warm water, bathwater warm, do not plan on a wetsuit.  there is no current but there IS a tide, so depending on the timing it could be incredibly easy or incredibly challenging.

check out patriot's half IM reports for the swim description, it's the same location.

Thank you, that is very helpful. I figured that with it being late in June, it would be warmwater.

Slight hijack, but would you Williamsburg athletes be interested in an open water swim club?  Let's say one evening a week and a weekend morning once the James warms up?

I know of a couple of people that would be interested but am wondering if there is anyone else out there.

I would like that and probably my training partner as well.  We do most of our long rides from Jamestown HS so that would work well.

I plan to do both. A friend is doing Eagleman as her first HIM so I've already registered for that one. I haven't registered for Rev 3 Williamsburg yet, but I plan too. I'm a Williamsburg local and can't pass it up. Not much recovery between races, but I'm going to give it a go!

I could certainly use the training opportunity (if you saw my swim times, you'd understand) Sounds great.
