Subject: Good minimalist shoe for Clydesdale

I've always been a mid to fore-foot running striker and am looking to find a more minimal shoe...I've typically run in Brooks Dyads or Asics Nimbus but being a bigger guy (230 lbs) and being a fore-foot striker, these models of shoes begin to feel like I've got a chunk of padding strapped to my feet rather than a running shoe.

Any suggestions or recommendations for a lighter shoe keeping in mind I'm not a gazelle??

FoggyGoggles - 2012-12-18 8:26 AM Look into the Brooks Pure Connect. Great feel beneath your foot, very light training shoe and solid for the forefoot runner.

Any idea if they have room for custom orthotics?  Forgot to mention I wear them and will continue to.  I just want to shed the feeling of wearing a slab of padding...

Thanks for the tip too..

Mizuno wave precisions are not minimal but a not as bulky. Saucony kinvara has even less. I wear both and hover around 215. Not sure about orthotics fitting as my experience is you have to try them out and it depends on the type of orthotic.

I found the Mizuno Wave Mushas and The Wave Ronins serve me best for minimalist mid-long distances.  Low heel to toe rise and pretty damn light.   I have inserts in mine.

Altras. They are zero drop, but still have some padding. They have a huge toe bo which I love.  I am 220 and want more padding, so I an'twait until the Torin comes out in 2013. The instinct is a great shoe.

I can push 200#, really liking Innov8 offerings. You'd need to try then to see they fit with your orthodic insoles.

Which particular Innov8 model do you use?  When I did a search there were several models to choose from...

Thanks

I would go and try the Skechers GoRun Ride.

I am around ~200 and I really liked them.

Also they are cheaper than most running shoes, while still lasting me ~300miles.

I know, Skechers just doesn't sound right, but try them on in a store, you might be suprised!
