Subject: Don Fink Plan Adjustment

Good afternoon all,

I'm starting the next year already registered in two key races.
The first one will be Kona 70.3 and the second one IMCOZ. The first one June 1st and second Dec 1st.

I'll follow Don Fink's plan.

My problem is: too much time will pass between race 1 and race 2, so I would peak for the second race too soon.
What do you guys recommend? Any ideas on how to adjust the plan in order to peak for IMCOZ in the right time?

Thanks a lot in advance,

Sergio.

If you lined up the IM plan exactly with that race, when would it have you starting? Basically recover from the HIM and do enough SBR to be ready for this.

Those races are too far apart to fit together within the Don Fink Plan. My suggestion would be to treat them as two separate training blocks. Find a HIM plan that you like and use it to train for the Kona 70.3. Take a week or two to recover, then jump into the DF plan at Week 5 or 6.

With almost 5.5 months between races, there is no way to tweak the Fink plan to fit. If you really want to use the plans in the book, do weeks 1-21, starting 21 weeks before the HIM, then train around the week 10-11 levels until you are 20 weeks out from the IM, and do weeks 11-30. With races that far apart, you can design a 5-6 month plan for each one and treat each one like an "A" race.

I agree with those above.  Your in a good situation.  Treat your races as two seperate training blocks.  Just make sure to give yourself some time to mentally and physically recover from the 70.3.

Good luck.

Coxma22:  Awesome suggestion! I am glad this question was posed. Different races, but I'm in the same boat. Thanks!
