Overall Rank = 3/87
Age Group = F30-39
Age Group Rank = 1/29
Pre-race routine:

Woke up around 7am. Ate a Clif bar and drove to the race site. Checked-in and got transition all set up. Drank as much water as I could before peeing and heading into the pool.
Event warmup:

One loop around the bike course before setting up and then a lap once in the pool.
Swim
  • 06m 5s
  • 300 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

It was a short swim in the pool so nothing to get too nervous about. I just swam like I would in training. Flip turns weren't allowed thankfully, so I was able to stay with the rest of the swimers in my lane.

Official Swim Time - 6:21
(included getting out of pool and running out of the fenced in pool area)
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

This was the time that it took to jump out of the pool, run along the pool deck and out onto the bike path to get to transition.
What would you do differently?:

Have the buckles of my bike shoes completely undone. I thought that I might save time if I had the top strap ready to tighten but instead I fumbled with it and had to undo it thus wasting time.
Bike
  • 23m 20s
  • 7.46 miles
  • 19.18 mile/hr
Comments:

I had a kick A$$ ride! Pushed hard and made sure that I didn't get passed by anyone.
What would you do differently?:

Double check my aerobottle set up because somewhere along the course I lost my long flexible straw extension and had to drink out of the short plastic bit.
Transition 2
  • 01m 14s
Comments:

Decided not to bother with socks in the running shoes since it was so short. I'm glad that I didn't because my feet ended up being fine.

Official Run Time - 18:53
Run
  • 18m 42s
  • 2.05 miles
  • 09m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

My legs didn't feel too brickish but my breahting and HR was off the chart. Since this was such a short run distance I pushed through reminding myself that the pain would only have to be for another 15 minutes or so...then I counted down. Again, I kept on going with the aim not to get passed by anyone. And, I didn't!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around. Stretched. Talked to some former HS classmates.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My extra body weight impacted my run, but otherwise it was a great race.

Event comments:

There was a really nice banquet and awards ceremony a few hours after the race.

I'm proud of my finish but need to add some caveats:
1) This was a woman-only race and I think that the course was made easier because of that.
2) There were many first-timers who had participated in various tri clinics over the previous months so this was not a competitive race.
3) There weren't a whole lot of road or tri bikes racked up in transition. This was truly a beginner's oriented-race and I felt kind of obnoxious with my fancy new tri bike passing those on mountain bikes.

Still, I would do this race again for the experience and to support the sport.
