I am really looking forward to just getting out of work for a few days.  Work has definitely affected my training, so I am going into this one just trying to get through it and focus in on nutrition.  I have heard it a really pretty down there, so really can't wait to get there.  Driving down with my niece tomorrow night.  Kind of cool to that a couple of my tri teammates are doing the race as well.

Here is our bike route ... nice challenge

Have a blast, knock em dead and good luck Carrie!

I have triathlon #1 in my life Sunday - Monticelloman Olympic. I'll still be a rookie Monday morning, just not quite as much of one as I am now. Do I also recall Larkin is racing this weekend too?

Nope I race on the 19th, which is sneaking up on me. It is a B race so I am not to worried but it is my first race. Good luck Matt! I actually wish I could go volunteer but it is my daughters birthday weekend and we have a bunch of family coming in.

No problem for you BTW I am suppose to ask you about how much you love butterfly. I found out how much I hate, I mean love it this morning.

I am sure you will be sound asleep the morning of my race.

Ok so I like fly.  It fixes issues.  It also is a mother.  Your rear and side delts will be smashed for days.

My issue is more about technic. I had a lesson last year from my Master's coach on it and never fully got it. I don't think. I can make it down the lane though which is what mattes at this point.

I bumped up to 35-39 this year.  Qualifying time went from 10:03 to 10:12.  Totally doable.

Kel has a 20 page or so PDF with technique drills.  I'm SURE she'd be willing to send it to you.

If she's sending it out, I'd love a copy too, if she doesn't mind.  Butterfly has kicked my butt on numerous occasions.

What issues does the fly fix and why? Does one need to be at a certain point in their swimming proficiency before beginning to do fly?

Both you and Chris have your first tri this weekend -- that's awesome!  So excited to hear about it.

Also (obviously) we've been archived.

If everyone is in for another round, I'll have a "new" group started in the new mentor thread.

In advance of the race on Sunday, do any of you more experienced folks have any plans you recommend for how to pace an Olympic (particularly for a rookie who's weak in the run) and also how to pace nutrition/hydration?  There are lots and lots of plans online, but many of them seem to conflict and I'm having a hard time figuring out what I should try.  Would certainly appreciate any suggestions...

Swim slightly above your all day pace.  Let your HR recover on the bike a bit, and start to build.  At about 1/3rd of the way through the bike take a gel and drop the hammer.  1 bottle on the bike.  On the run start out fast and continue to push as long as possible.  Take in sports drink at every aid station.

I swam my fastest 800TT ever this morning (11:01).  I'm so close to dipping into the 10s.  I'm very pleased with my progress in the pool.  Huge improvement from last year.  Even better than the improvement is the fact that I love swimming more and more each day
