Precipitation
Total Time = 1h 28m 48s
Overall Rank = 193/315
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 16/18
Pre-race routine:

hmm...usual tried and true--up early enough, packed quickly, oatmeal and cran juice on the road with tunes.
Event warmup:

run around and do a race day entry, chat on the beach with kathyg, isis, and trimom217. try to stay warm.

Took off my watch!!! and no bike computer!!!
Swim
  • 18m 20s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 05s / 100 yards
Comments:

not having swam in quite a while, I actually did as well as I usually do even if I do practice, practice, practice!! so much for all that extra work, I guess that says alot for bad swim practices!!

I started at the back of the pack on the very last wave so I had no aspirations to do anything but finish. (well, I really did want to catch isis on the swim!!)Just swam comfortably and easy. Passed a few folks here and there.
OVerall, I didnt get tired not felt crappy, just enjoyed the time in the water.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

t-1 was crappy and I accept that. There was a long walk/.jog from the pond to the racks, my wetsuit got caught on my calves (rain disuaded me from putting on body glide) and generally no rythm to the transition--just get it off and get it done.
Bike
  • 44m 10s
  • 12 miles
  • 16.30 mile/hr
Comments:

This time includes the walk up from the beach and T-1. I know I had a good bike. Roads were wet and slick but the puddles were FUN!!!!! heehee!!

Rain drop hurt going fast!!

had to be wary of cornering and all that with the rain and wet roads.
What would you do differently?:

wear sunglasses to keep rain and mud from eyes.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

again, T-2 was not stellar. just get the stuff off and get moving again.

saw isis already out on the run before I got done with the bike. Happy to see her kicking some butt!!

saw ellen out on the bike route. She looked happy and I was sssoo gald to see her back in the groove!!
Run
  • 26m 17s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

Met isis heading back in and got a great BT hug!! Saw kathyg and gave her a high 5!! She said 'what are you doing back here?' as I was behind her on route. Kathy, it wasnt that I was 'back there' it was because you were UP THERE!!!! way, way WAY farther ahead in the pack!! woohoo!!!

Post race
Warm down:

hung out to greet Bters coming in, got to enjoy a great time hanging with buds after race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

training. drive. competitive ambition. really, just feel the need this year to play without a watch and do the pace the way I feel at the time.

Event comments:

FIRM does an 'ok' race. No signage as to directing the participants to the venue, no mile markers for bike or run leg, very little post race goodies.

overall, it was fun to be able to race on a warm rainy day in june and I have to thank FIRM for the opportunity.

Glen...it was awesome to see you again at Webster where we first met a year ago!

It was crazy race in the rain & wet but a better memory for the long run!

How a year has brought some changes and you reminded me of them...not so nervous at the start for me...unlike the year before.

I really was surprised & happy to see you on the run!

See you at Cranberry if not before!

I was so glad that you were able to make it to Webster for the race.  It's just not the same when you're not there  LOL

You had a nice race despite 'not feeling' it and you definately looked strong when you blew by me on the bike!

Glad you decided to make the trek & play in the rain- (At least it was warm....)
What better place to be hanging out on a morning in June?
kept thinking you'd be swimming over me, pass me on the bike, or hear footsteps behind me on the run..but it was fun seeing you finish ..!
Thanks for being there for my foray back into tri-world after the winter/spring from hell....
Happy to be back & having you guys there made it all the sweeter....

Nice race, Glen.  Looks like you can ditch the swim practice from now on and focus on the other 2 events.  With or without practice, you still swim so fast.  Then you can run even faster.  Life is so not fair.  Hmm.. I said that to amiine recently.

Nice race Glen,

I like the fact you did your own thing sans watch and computer and enjoyed it. You did great! Looking forward to seeing you and the BT gang at Cranberry and maybe before.
