Hi all,
I've set my sights on completing my first triathlon this spring. I have a solid base on the bike, and running experience, but my swim skills are rudimentary. I took lessons as a kid, so I'm not afraid of the water, but I have never swum laps or really worked out in a pool. I'm ready to put in the time, but would like to begin by building a good fundamental stroke (and avoid as many bad habits as I can). I wonder if there are any recommendations for a coach in the Lansing area? Thanks! Eric

Hey Eric,Congratulations on making the decision to Tri. There is a great swim program at the Mason high school pool in conjunction with Playmakers. Also ymca has a good program. I can send you a link to the Mason one. Coach Karen Creaser does a nice job.

Here you go.  It is on page 2, bottom right corner.  Info should be on Playmakers site anytime now too.

No problem.  I did it 2 or 3 years ago.  Playmakers integrates it with bike and run workouts too if you join their Tri training team.  Or, you can just get the swim workout.  And I don't know if you are familiar with the Mason area, but they just built a new pool a few years ago so it is nice and new.  Nice locker rooms too.

Hi Kaehlin,

If you're still looking for something I would look into the Westside Y. They have some good swim programs and even a tri class.

Good luck!

Eric, as soon as it is warm enough, Team Motiv8 has a weekly Wednesday evening open water swim at Sleepy Hollow State Park. Everyone is welcome and it is a no swimmer left behind swim. We'd love to see you out there.

I know the coach of the tri class at the West Side Y really enjoys working with adults who are beginners.
