Subject: Where to find open water near Tempe?
Hi All,
I've done a couple Sprints (all pool swims) and want to do the Tempe Tri in May. I need to find some open water to practice in later this spring. Coming from Chicago where the the answer was pretty obvious. Advice?
Best,
Kassie

I am curious about this as well. I am in the Albuquerque area and am doing Oceanside 70.3 at the end of March. I was wondering about Lake Havasu or maybe some Phoenix/Tucson area lakes that might work for some OWS practice before the race.

ETA: there is a good OWS thread further down in the AZ forum with good info.

There are some splash and dashes scheduled for April and May at Tempe Town Lake. Check out Four Peaks Racing's website.

There are also several area lakes. Bartlett lake, Canyon Lake and Saguaro Lake are very popular and have designated swimming areas (no boats allowed) year around.

Here is as comprehensive a web site as I've seen that describes all the local OWS sites in the Phoenix area.

Lake Havasu and Mohave Lake are also options though they are a few hours away from the PHX area.
