Hey Folks,

I'm starting to plan my Tri season and wondered if anyone would like to recommend (or avoid) a specific  event that is in the upstate NY/VT region. I'm looking at Sp/Oly distance and wanted to do at least 1 local event and 1 big sponsored event. Overall I wanted to do about 1 event and it doesn't all have to be tri.

Thanks for any feedback.

Not sure what you consider upstate...
But this a race east of Saratoga Springs that my friend puts on and is well organized.

There is also a NY thread area which would probably get more attention than in here.

x2 on Vermont Sun. I've done their HIM twice and just signed up for it again next year. It's a BEAUTIFUL race - pristine lake swim parallel to the shore, beautiful highway ride, and run up a shaded dirt road. I was not a fan of Hunter Mountain myself - it was well-organized but the road was in terrible condition and an overall very technical bike. I also didn't like the run, which was partially through parking lots and such.

HITS just purchased a race in Hague NY. It is a beautiful swim in Lake George. They will have a sprint, oly, half and full this year.

I have traveled north to do the Cayuga Lake Tri two different times. They have both an Oly and Sprint same day.  Very well organized and supported.  Highly recommend this race.  I have also heard excellent things about the Lake George tri in September and most of the other Finger Lake tris  throughout the season.

Go with NY, it's safe now that they published the names of all registered gun owners.

Musselman in Geneva, NY at Lake Seneca is a fantastic event. It's a whole weekend festival with everything from a kids race to a HIM. It was just listed in Triathlete Magazine as one of the best events in the country.

Is that the same race location as the Olympic distance event during labor day weekend but just run by different people?

The Labor Day tri is in lake George village on the southern end of the lake. Hague is about 25 miles north of Lake George Village.

not too far upstate, but West Point Tri : As with many things related to the Armed Services, very well run and organized from what I remember. I remember the bike being more challenging (hilly) than most sprints.

Swim 874.89 yards   Bike 13.67 miles   Run 3.11 miles
