My Saucouny Triumph 9s have almost 400 miles on them.

I have tried the Triumph 10s, Asics Kyanos, and now the Gel Nimbus 14s. My feet HURT during and after running with each pair. I don't know quite how to explain it -- they just HURT.

I have wide feet (not wide enough for a wide width, but need a wider toe box) and really high arches. I have orthotics, and yes, I've tried running without them, but then my feet really hurt.

I'm tired of going back and forth to the running store.

Ideas? Suggestions?

if you have wide feet maybe try men's shoes, AFAIK width is the main difference.

I just bought a pair of Brooks Dyad 7 for the extra width in the toe box and ball region. I normally wear a wide width, but no need with the Brooks. I haven't done much running in them (maybe 4-5 runs) due to the holidays, but I really like them and have NO leg or foot pain in them.

Mizuno Wave Mercury comes to mind because it's quite flexible, not real stiff in the sole, comfy interior, and works well with high arches.

Have you thought about trying the men's styles of the shoes for a wider toe box?

If you can pinpoint a little more about the hurt--entire sole? Sole and instep and forefoot? Toes? Heel? Entire foot, outside and inside? Is it soreness-muscle pain or is it friction-foot-heat pain? Ankles? Inner/outer?

Sometimes trying a different lacing style (skipping holes, including/excluding the tongue loop, butterfly lacing, etc.) can help relieve pressure at certain points.

I also have gone to the Brooks Ghost for the wider toe box.  I actually have a narrow foot but these fit in both areas.

I second TriAya - try lacing changes, it could be the pressure that's constricting your feet.  My feet used to hurt a lot (pins and needles type in the ball of the foot). I sucked it up to lack of callous and running experience.  I got Brooks Pure Connect and all that went away and feet feels wonderful.  I have wide feet as well, so the Pure Connect has a pretty wide toe box.

Good luck!

Ummmm...If the Saucouny Triumph 9's are what works for you, wouldn't the obvious answer be to go with the Triumph 9's??

Here's a link to them on running warehouse (PM me if you want a discount code) There are multiple other sources as well if you have an online dealer you like to work with.

The thing I like about this the most is that they're on clearance...so if you love them, buy a few pairs. You'll be set.

Of curiosity, do you feel you strike differently in the different shoes? like forefoot, mid or heel strike? more on the outside or inside?

I have much more tendency to heel strike in my K-Swiss Blade light than my Assics Hyper Speed, and when I try to do fore-/midfoot strike in the K-swiss I hit much more on the outer side. Of course, these shoes are very different, but a clue to your pain may be in different strike.

Trish, we have basically the same feet -- wide toe box and high arches, and needing a neutral shoe. I switched to the Brooks Ghost early in 2012 and have been super happy with them.

I would either order a few pairs of the 9s off the internet (runningwarehouse.com) if you really liked them or try more shoes.

I have fat hobbit feet and high arches--I liked Brooks Launch over the Ghost, if you're looking at Brooks. I also really like the Kinvara 3s in WIDES (1 and 2 didn't have widths). They run a bit narrower, so even if you don't normally wear a wide, you could give them a try.
