Who is in??

I just signed up.  I did this last year and was very pleased with how it was run.  It was my first tri.

For those who may be interested, or just want to discuss the event, feel free to use this thread.

The registration fee goes up by $20 midnight tonight, so if you are considering it, do so before midnight tonight!

Doug

p.s. My goal for the event is to cut 4 minutes off last year's time...ideally 1 minute from each of the swim/bike/run segments, and 1 minute off transition times.  Wish me luck with that!

Always love doing this race.. Was 2nd overall last year and was hoping to maybe take the top spot but unfortunately will be doing Columbia Tri 5150 which is May 19th...but Gretna is a great race and always well run...one of my favorites and will miss doing it this season...good luck to all.

I'm going to pass this year.

It's a nice event, and I've done it the last 5 years, but I've had bad races there the last 2 years (for reasons that have nothing to do with the race - illness this year and a mechanical that my son had in 2011), and have decided to approach my season a little differently this year, so I'm ready for a change of scenery.

I'm still planning on Hempfield in April and Musselman in July, but will do the Garden Spot Village HM on April 6, the Rock Hall International on June 1 and USAT Nationals August 10.  I still need to decide what I want to do in the fall.

Bike course is about 16 miles, I would say slightly hilly.    Very good course.

Sweet, I think I'll sign up. That'll fit in nicely between UMLY tri and the philly tri

I'm in!  This was the first tri I ever did so I enjoy whittling away at my times each year.  Plus it is a nice course, well-run and for a great cause.

I've done this race the last two years and really like it. The water is cold and the bike course has some good hills. Great event to kick off the season. Looking forward to doing it again this year!

Awesome!  This is a great regional race that draws a decent size crowd and it's well-run.  It can be a good first experience.

Also, welcome to BT!

Congrats!!

This was my first tri when I did it last year.

You WILL want a wetsuit, btw.  The water is chilly.  I think I saw a couple people do it last year without a wetsuit but I don't recommend that.

I did the group ride last Sunday and the lake is still drawn down. Hopefully they start filling it soon so it has a chance to warm up.

Most years in the past they haven't filled it until 1-2 weeks before the race.  That's one of the reasons the water can be so cold.

Unable to do Gretna this year (doing Columbia Tri instead), but I have a feeling the water will be the coldest this year around. Last year was unseasonably warm and that is not the case this year. When I rode by earlier this week there was some water in the lake so looks like they may slowly be starting to fill it up.

12 More Days.

Anyone have a sense on what the water temp will be?

I am thinking cold...maybe 60 by race day?

Hoping it will creep above 60 by race day, last year was mighty cold!!

I hope your are right.  As of now, the temp at Blue Marsh Lake is around 58 degrees, and I suspect Mt Gretna is going to be similar.  Let's hope it warms up some!

Does anyone know if the pot-holey road to and from the lake (beginning and end of bike leg) has been repaved?

The "road" out of & back into the transition area is newly paved. The pot holes of old are gone.

I don't like cold water but last year the lake was almost balmy. That was not bad at all. I suspect, without a drastic change in the weather, this year will be colder than the last few years.

Good to know.  All we need is a heatwave to warm up the water.  Not likely based on current 10-day.

I am guessing water temp for race day will be approx 60 degrees.  I only have a sleeveless wetsuit but that will have to do.

It will be nice if it gets to 60 but I think mid 50's is probably more likely.
