I did Augusta last year and had a blast.  I'm doing IMFL 2013 as well.  However, I'm on the fence about doing Augusta.  I would be missing key workouts that week leading up to Augusta and race weekend.  Also, 2500+ racers would increase risk factor of a freak accident on the bike.  I saw and heard some wipeouts.  If there is a big injury to myself and\or bike, I don't think 4 weeks would give me enough time to recover.  I'm still trying to talk myself into signing up.

I am planning on IM 70.3 Augusta.  It will be my "A" race this year.  I will be attempting my first half-distance race in only my second year of triathlon.  I have a few Sprint races and a Half-Marathon to warm me up early this season.

I'm in! Did This race in 09 but not much activity the last couple of years. Trying to get things going again so I signed up for Augusta to get some motivation! Looking forward to dropping a few lbs and being active again!

Totally understand the fear of injuy.  Lots of people use Augusta as a warmup for IM Fla though.  I did IMFLA 12.  Tried to be as safe as possible and still broke my pinky to the weekend before so there are no gaurantees   Fortunately it was just the toe that runs wee wee all the way home so I got through the race.  Looking forward to seeing you all out there!

Just signed up for Augusta again, did this race in 2011.  This will be my warm up for IMAZ.

Hope the weather is cooling this year versus what it was 2 years ago.

I did Augusta last year as my first HIM.  Planning to do it again this year as a warm up for IMFL as I am sure many others are.

Signed up for Augusta 70.3 which will be my first. I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I'm already starting to prepare training plans and researching everything I can for a 70.3.

I'm In, just registered. I have been basically "off" since 2009. I have a long way to go and about 30lbs to shed... starting nice and easy! I am excited to have something to shoot for. Marriott shows full, any ideas on hotel from those who have done Augusta before?

Im in the same boat, I did three 70.3 races in 2009, New Orleans, Florida and Augusta and was in great shape. Somehow I fell off the wagon hard, gained 30lbs and haven't really done much racing or training in over 2 years! 2013 is my year to get things back on track.

Yes, the Marriott is full. We booked at the Ramada Inn. It had good reviews and is actually closer to the swim start and transition than the Marriott...and it is only $119 vs. $164 at Marriott.

I too made reservations at the Ramada at $119 per night. The Ramada is approx 1/2 way between the Marriot and Transition. Did a search on Google Maps for hotels in the area.

I just booked at the Ramada as well. I really didn't think that the Marriot would fill up this soon. We stayed there last year and in was very convenient. Augusta 2012 was my first HIM and this year I am using it as a warm-up for IMFL in November.

thanks for the information; I did book at the Ramada.  I did a few easy sessions this weekend, just trying to get back into a groove with training. My main goal for the next 6-8 weeks is to focus on consistency, good nutrition, easy sessions-avoiding injury. SKI- we have done this before; I'm sure we can do it again, maybe just not next week... ! we have plenty of time to get there.

although I'm a Gamecock, I live in Alabama-- big game tonight

Still a long way away from actually starting a 20 week plan but my main goal for this race is to have a solid run time. I plan on spending the next 4 months building my run base and actually starting a training plan in shape for the first time in a long time.

Hey all--Just did my first HIM last weekend (Bone Island TRI) and thinking about this as one of my races next year. Can you tell me if the bike course is closed or at least if it has dedicated lanes?

Congrats on BoneIsland.  I did the full.  I live in Augusta and have done the race 3 times.  The bike course is not closed and doesn't have dedicated lanes but it is a much better course than BIT.  There is traffic but not near the traffic or speed that was on US1.  The swim is crazy fast and "flat" compared to those waves and swells that kicked our but at BIT. The bike is no worse than what you did if you consider the head winds we dealt with.  The run is flat and very very spectator friendly.  No running on sidewalks and the streets downtown are completely closed off to traffic for the race.  You will enjoy Augusta if you decide to do it.  I probably won't do it since I'm doing IM Canada the month before but I will be out cheering everyone on.

Thanks for the course report and again congrats on getting through that Ironman distance course at the BIT. Holy cow, I live here and it was still tough. But you are definitely reading my mind on what I am looking for in the bike course. I never completely relaxed (not that I would anyway), and always had this fear of going off the shoulder or being hit, plus had a 10 minute hold up by the MCSO at the turnaround that did not make me happy. Anyway, thanks for the insight and best of luck at IM Canada.

Rode the course last weekend with about 20 others.  I think this is the first year a group that large has ridden so early in the year.

has the bike course stayed the same since 2009? I don't really remember much of it except it having more hills than I thought.

It's still the same course.
