Subject: Ladies- what are your favorite cold-weather running tights?

It looks like we're actually going to have a winter this year, and my thin little tights just are not cutting it.  So what do you like?

I'm 5'9" though my legs aren't super-long, but I still probably need tights that are longer than average.  Looking for something to wear in the high teens to mid 30s.  I prefer not to spend more than $50 but I think that may be unrealistic.

Looking forward to your suggestions!  Thanks!

I'm not a lady (or even a woman), but I love my Nike Element thermal running tights for colder days. And my wife recently bought a pair, which she loves too.

CWX insulator tights are awesome! Pricey, but they are really durable so they should last you many years. I haven't checked to see if they have a long version. I am only 5'4", and they are a perfect length for me. Maybe some longer running socks to cover your ankles?

lululemon!  they are so comfortable and have zipped POCKETS so I can put my iphone in.

my crx, skins are now all base layers for skiing as they have no where near the comfort as lululemon!

Asics Thermopoolis LT. Best tights I have ever owned. (I also own the knicker version.) You can get them at Runningwarehouse.com for less than $50, as well.

Around zero or below, I might wear a pair of shorts under them, but other than that, they are fine by themselves--not too hot at 40 degrees, not too cold at 5. AWESOME. And sooooo soft.

ETA: I am 5'9.5" with a 34.5" inseam, and they are plenty long enough for me.

Mid-30's I'm in thin pants and a t-shirt!LOL!

However, for the mid-teens and low 20's, I swear by my Nike Pro cold weather base tights under any general running tights or pants. UnderArmor is awesome too - I have three of their ColdGear tops - a must in this climate!

After looking around at different options, I bought some at Target this year for like $35. I can't remember the exact name, but they are their "advanced" line compression w/a zippered pocket & zippers at the bottom. They're designed for cold weather, so the inside is fleece-like. I've gone down to 7* & they are great. I'd buy them again in a second. Actually I tried to order them online, but they were all sold out & haven't had a chance to search the stores.

I prefer a pant to a tight, keeps me warmer.  I get cold very easily and these do the trick down to almost zero with the right layers on top.  They're thermal and come in tall.  I'm also 5' 9" and the tall worked well.  Find them at a retailer to potentially pay less than buying directly from Brooks:

I like the 3SP pants from Sporthill. They are intended for a variety of activities including winter running and crpss-country skiing. I also use mine for cold-weather hiking/trekking and biking (over bike shorts). Not cheap but they usually have end-of-season sales (which I realize won't help you this year). Women's medium, or medium long fits me well (a bit short of 5'8"; long legs for my height, skinny). I live where they're based so I can get to the warehouse sales and some of their tent sales at track meets in Eugene. I also have a few pairs of similar pants (intended for cross-country skiing--made for a German company called Adventure) that I bought in China. I find that XC ski stuff is really nice for cold days--it stays warm even when it's wet, allows full range of motion, and is warm enough on its own down into the teens.

^^ This... but I'm so short I wear the capri's and they're fine w/ a pair of Smartwool ski socks.  I also like the capris b/c I ski in them. (so I don't have to worry about bunching in the boot).

I've also got a pair of insulated Sporthill for cold night runs, but they're kind of long for my short 28in inseem.

I ordered these from Amazon, because they sure sound like they'll be long enough, and were $36 with free shipping!  I'll let everyone know how they work.

A few years ago I ordered several pairs of tights from Sierra Trading Post, but I found on the shorter ones that the part of the lower leg that tapered to the ankle were hitting me at my calf... and it really wasn't fitting.  One pair I couldn't pull up, another I had to leave the zipper un-zipped.  I just wanted to mention that if there are other long-legged women looking for tights- I don't think too short ones will work.

Thanks for the advice, everyone!

I love my Sub Zero Running Skirt (it has attached pants).  Nice and warm and I'm a sucker for a cute skirt.

I am 5'11 and love these Brook Utopia Thermal...They are a little pricey but well made and worth it. I like them snug around the ankle so cold wind doesnt get up your leg... I live in North FL/South GA and believe it or not it can get cold here everyonce and a while and I have ran in these in the 20's and they are super warm and long enough..
