If there was a playoff this year, how would it have worked?

Would Bama and ND still be playing but in one of the BCS Bowls? Would the old conference allegiances come back to the Rose Bowl?

And if it was this year, what 4 teams would be in?

I think the 4 teams that would have been in would be ND, Bama, Florida, and Oregon which were the 4 highest ranked teams at the end of the regular season.

I wish my Aggies would get a shot this year as they ended the season on fire.  I can see an argument that they should have taken care of business earlier in the season though.

Bama vs. ND will be fun.....but aTm vs. Oregon would be more fun.

Whatever the "playoff" picture ends up looking like, I hope it doesn't include 4-6 weeks off.....that changes everything.

That's where I'm confused. Is it a playoff after the bowl games or a playoff that includes the bowl games? So would they select the 4 teams before or after the bowls?

I would think if it were before, it would just be a "plus one".

I believe the way they have it set up is a plus 1 scenario, but I think that's semantics. I believe they match the top 4 now instead of the top two and then the nat champ game is the winner of those two. I thought they added an extra bowl, but I could be wrong as it's not necessary in order to get what they want done. It also rotates among all the BCS bowls.

Regardless, I think the OP states the quandary pretty well. Obviously the top 4 are who would have gone. ND, Bama, Florida, and Oregon. Bama beating Florida and Oregon beating ND. Personally I think Oregon would have ended up on top.

Details are still to be worked out but it will likely be a plus-one format utilizing existing bowls for the semis. The four teams will not necessarily be the four highest-ranked teams but rather four teams chosen by a to-be-determined selection committee.

I can see a scenario where this year the subjective committee would omit Florida (as an example) in favor of Kansas State or Texas A&M (hot team with the Heisman winner). Where would we be without a little controversy? At least it will be over the 3 and 4 teams and not who should be 1 and 2 playing for the championship.
