Subject: Who SUPs?

Pretty excited I am getting my xmas present to myself tomorrow night.  Got a really (really really) good deal on a Paddle Surf Hawaii 10'4" all arounder.  I am about a mile from the beach, so *hope to* get some good cross training in, and as the days get longer, hit it before or after work.  Did some last summer in Hawaii and here at home and loved it.  Right now just getting an aluminum 2 piece paddle, that I will use to start and keep when I upgrade for the wife or friends.

Any advice on carbon paddles?

Whoa!

That is super slick Rick, right there.

Never have but I want to try, we are totally land locked here but they rent them on the river by me...this summer hopefully..

Have fun!

Awesome, congrats! I don't own one, but we use them at our local shop. The 'discount' he was offering this winter was only $150-200 off. The Mr. of the house said I could get one, but I just couldn't swallow another $12-1500 for a 'just for fun' hobby. Sigh.

No advice, but have rented at the cabin and done it on vacation several times and think SUPs are cool.  Jealous!

I got friends that do, and friends that kayak.  I want both!  I will make a decision when I get my tax rebate, maybe do both....

I have one but its not made for surfing on. Its really thick like a kayak and is made for touring or racing. Its pretty unstable so I usually fall or almost fall if a big boat wake hits me from the side. As far as carbon paddles go, make sure you get it cut to the right length. I would have a shop do this for you.

This past summer we were camping at a lake and my son (not quite 6) saw a SUP and asked me "Why doesn't that boat have any sides?"  Too funny.  Later we talked about renting a boat to take on the lake and he said "A boat with sides, right?"

I think SUPing would be fun but haven't tried it yet.

We picked up a 10 foot something Hypr all round SUP a few months ago. Waiting for the weather to warm up before getting it out again. Our local (Seattle area) has some deals on many different styles right now. I'd like a race board too, but just not sure when I'd be able to use it.
